Hello all @ DNforum,

I am relatively new to this & would much appreciate your opinions on GoogleUK.com & ukGoogle.com. I realise that there are all sorts of issues concerning the legitimacy of using these names; that aside I'm sure that they would (mainly GoogleUK) generate plenty of traffic for a UK based search engine... What do you think?

Cheers,

Syd.

How can you seperate the legitimacy from the attractiveness of the domains? No commercial entity with an ounce of sense would touch them - that leaves them without value.

I agree with safesys Syd, the TM issues are major.

Point taken and fair comment; I agree, the legitimacy and the attractiveness of a domain cannot be separated, which is why I wasn't very excited about registering them... I just couldn't resist! If anyone does have a use for them, let me know!

Cheers,

Syd.

Google has http://www.google.co.uk/
http://www.google.ca etc

In fact, when I was visiting Canada, Google.com would not come up (local ISP) - I was forced to google.ca

This one may be pretty useless but I can amost feel your rush when you saw it waiting to be registered. :)

A bit of a rush indeed, to tell you the truth the names dropped today, whether or not Google had previously registered them I am unsure. As you mention; Google's search engines are localised, and when looking for Google's UK search engine it is easy to see how a fair percentage of people would go to GoogleUK.com as opposed to Google.co.uk. But as concluded, certain issues render them dangerous!
