I was nearby, on Gabriola Island, ( http://www.haven.ca/resort/photos.html ) for just about 2 weeks the beginning of this month.
What a beautiful place Vancouver and the surrounding island chains are.
Thanks for that link, RMF.

So you really only need about $5.4 million?

That's pretty neat!

Yeah I live on vancouver island. BC is a great place to live. Sure would be nice to take over that town. The possibilities are endless.

I think it works out to about 5.5 million usd. So, you could either buy a nice house in beverly hills, or a whole town in canada. lol

That town has about 90 houses, plus a bunch of appartments :)

What kind of mortgage payment would that be for a $7 Million dollar town on a 30 year loan?

I'm 1 million short!

Bidders so far include a church wanting to turn it into a monastery, a group wanting to open a university there, and a resort operator who hopes to rent out the homes at weekly rates

could hold DNF conventions there!

It looks like a beautiful area. However, there is no economy. It is hundreds of miles from civilization making it difficult to attract tourism. The only industry in the town so dead that a company in the mining business wants to unload the town. At least in Beverly Hills, if you buy a $7 million house, you can probably find a plumber or electrician when you need one. How do you get food, fuel, medical attention, entertainment, internet service, Cable TV and other stuff common in every day life, way out there...

The actual worth of the town is whatever they are paying the 2 caretakers to maintain it, which I suspect is not much. Because, without them, the entire town is worth $0 zippy/zilch...

This is like buying qjk.us for $5 and selling it for $1000. The seller is cleaning the clock of the buyer. The only one that makes sense to me is the monastery bidding on it. I guess the monks can hummmmm to the bugs and wildlife as the sun sets on the beautiful landscape...

Sorry for the reality - I'm no city boy, but I like my ammenities...

Agreed! Sounds like somewhere to go to meditate (or die) .
Sounds grim to me!
