As i have put the domain Chico.biz online just 3 days ago, i got the first inquiry for it today.
Potential buyer is a Chico, California located ISP.Research showed there are 4 US cities named "Chico".
They ask me to name a price but as i haven't done any proactive marketing for this name yet( i don't care for anything other than .com/.de anymore really), it's kinda hard for me to figure it's resale value at the moment.
Any opinions are welcome. :)

I don't think it would be urealistic to expect an ISP to pay a "few thousand" if they really want THAT domain. The art of the game is having a place to bargain from. If you ask for 10K but settle for 3K after the normal back and forth they feel better about paying the price. Ask for 3K and they'll be expecting they can get you down to less than 1K. Besides...you can always lower your asking price. You can't raise it!

True but my experience is that a significant number of potential buyers don't go for the back-n-forth game and don't even reply if you've sent them a too high asking price - when in fact i would have been willing to negotiate. So my new approach is kinda not playing games unless it's a REALLY good name.

So i wrote em back saying my asking price is $1500 - pretty fair given 4 different US cities by the name "Chico", that its one of the most common hispanic terms, all other extensions are taken and so on.He replied offering me $100 instead...talking about asking for 10k :D

stand firm at $1500. Obviously they want it. The dot-com would cost $10k plus. To the contrary, you should have countered 10k. Then maybe their counter would have been 1500.

That was a good price to tell them, and their counter came back way low. I would value this name around $300 - $500

It is a dot biz afterall. If they had any budget whatsoever, they'd be going after chico.net.

tell him 1400 firm, this way when he counters, you dont look desperate since you only came down 100. He will counter higher then 100, and you wont have to let it go so cheap

See most people just don't counter at all - mostly just because of their budget or in some cases they just give it a try but leave it there if they see the seller ain't desperate.

Tell him you decided not to sell....and your going to open a spanish porn site with it.

Then ask if he will host it for you : )

His loss ...

for me, i won't even bother if someone offer me that low.

I'd rather let the name expires than selling at $100.

:)
