...which isn't really strange at all. I get them all the time, mostly from domainers, or "end users" offering $100 for LLL.com's. :veryangry:

But this inquiry was for two domains - two domains I hand-regged just a couple of weeks ago. (Two versions on the same theme.)
And I'm 100% sure the inquiry is from a serious end-user...

The problem is; I regged those not to sell, but for a project in which I'm the end user for them. Apparently someone else has ideas for a similar project at the same time... But I can't sell, those names are important for my project.

Why didn't I ever get that kind of interest for domains I hand-regged to SELL?? :?: :upset:
(I never do that any more, unless it's something exceptional.)

Sell them anyway for $xx,xxx and with that money you can reg some new names for your project :)

kinda ironic situation to be in huh?

when you really come up with a good domain to keep...somebody else always wants to buy it.

It shows that they have good taste - if one of us wants to keep it we know it's at least a halfway decent domain. :)

No can do... They're too good to let any competitor have. Anyone with those names would be a direct competitor for the same customers.
I didn't even plan to have any of them as the primary name for the site, I just regged them to keep others away...

Yeah... that sucks.

Yeah... It almost makes me want to change the name of the project, and make one of them Primary... but I actually think the current Primary domain is better.

And if someone wonders, I can't disclose the project at this time.

Perhaps it's not to late to find replacement domains to pitch to them... :)
"Sorry I can't sell these domains as I have development projects underway but I can offer #######.com instead. Now if you make me an offer I can't refuse..." :)

Not a bad idea... but that would probably have to be something that, if I found something even remotely similar, I would probably want to keep it myself anyway. But perhaps. The domains are product keyword+branding keyword, or how I should put it... There are a lot of domains with the product keyword, but it's the branding word that I'm taking everything that's even remotely close, and synonyms... and I really really think it's the branding keyword they are after, not just the product keyword.

Edit: It's also a kind of product where branding is everything, almost.

Perhaps they can partner on the same project? Ask what they have in mind for the domain.

Hmm... That might be a possibility. I have to explore that a bit, do some more research on them before asking directly. Good idea. The problem is trust... And that I don't like to share the profits.

Don't be greedy buddy. It's about best managing your time. It's better sharing the profits in one successful site then not having a successful site at all. If they have a good vision for the site, maybe you can work something out. If you maintain domain ownership, what can really go wrong? :)

Well, that's very true. Perhaps I should try to make a deal with them... But I've put 5 figures into my own project already, and even if they would make a parallel project using those names, that would be a direct competitor to my own service - for which I already have another partner who does most of the work, even if I will get most of the profits. (If any.)
The main problem would be how to make sure I really know how much the site makes in profits, so I'm not cheated out of my share.
But I need to do some research...

I didn't realize you have already invested money into a parallel project.

The way I am talking you probably think I am the guy who contacted you. ;)

LOL. No, don't think so... They're not Australian - I'm sure of that. Neither are they a US company. But I'm not revealing more than that.
Still, even with my own project in the running, it might still be a possibility to make a deal with them. But it would have to be a really good deal for me...
