Today we officially launched the new MSN Mobile Service in the US,
putting a firm stake in the ground in the race to win mobile online
consumers. This launch is a big milestone in the Company's commitment
to engaging mobile users, because we're now able to offer mobile
consumers a single point of access for both the MSN Media Network, as
well as key online services like Windows Live Hotmail and Live Search.
Our teams built MSN Mobile from the ground up so that we could take
the MSN Media Network to mobile phones, with a design that optimizes
the MSN experience for each customer's mobile device. We've
incorporated feedback from thousands of consumer testers and created a
new mobile service that gives customers a quick and easy way to get
the content and services they want while they're on the go.
In the US alone, roughly 180 million of the 230 million mobile
consumers have Web-enabled phones, so the chance to engage and convert
this audience to MSN and our online services is an astounding business
opportunity. We intend to both deepen engagement with our current PC
customers and acquire new customers using mobile phones in the US and
eventually in international markets. We've also designed MSN Mobile
to incorporate mobile advertising, so we can extend our online
advertising business model and attract advertisers who want to reach
this vast audience of mobile users.
While today's launch is US-focused, during FY08 we will expand to
additional markets including Asia, where many of the region's 1
billion+ mobile phone consumers use mobile devices to access the
Internet. We also have plans to update and enhance the service,
adding new features like mobile video and deeper customization
capabilities.
If you aren't already using the service, you need to visit
mobile.msn.com on your phone's Internet browser, add it to your
bookmarks or make it your mobile home page. I'm a huge fan of this
service and I've been evangelizing it everywhere I go because it's so
revolutionary for staying connecting and getting information. Our
beta testers also appreciated MSN Mobile and here are some of their
comments:
"MSN Mobile is a location that I can go to and find it all without
typing in another address on my phone."
"What I need is instantly available within one or two taps from the
home page. Weather, movie theaters, sports, and news ⦠MSN Mobile has
changed the way I do things. I have come to rely on it."
"I like being able to go right into my email account without any added
requirements."
"There is consistency between the PC and Mobile device which makes it
easier to consume the type of information I like."
Congratulations to the entire team on this milestone launch. You can
