Sorry if this question has been asked before. I could not find this in the search.

Does GD appraisal certificate REALLY helps us to sell the domain for better price?

Does their appraisal truly reflect the real market value of our domain? If not, is it undervalued or overvalued?

....this is a question I had about appraisals in general I bought two great domain appraisals for buying-shares.com and bizunit.com and it cost me $200. After hearing other comments here and there on the internet I feel the value of a domain is in the buyers court if marketed correctly. I only bought them because a particular buyer asked for an appraisal and he would only accept a great domains report. I thought afterwards perhaps some kind of scam was going on. Im not experienced enough yet to judge the world of appraisals but I feel they are a bit of a hit and miss..

I never had any of my domains appraised by Great Domains. The ones I've seen have definately been overvalued. I doubt that Great Domains can determine the real market value of domains today. They are not as prominent as they used to be, and domain sales from their sites have diminished drastically in the past 1-2 years. Having your domain appraised here at DN Forum is a much better approach. First of all it is FREE. Second of all, some here have a better knowledge of what the market value for some domains are, judging from their own sales or expertise in that particualar field of industry your domain might represent.

Thanks!

Appaisals are like legal scams. They just want your money. Although an appraisal from a respected company does come in handy only when you ahve a very interested buy and he wants you to get an appraised value so that he can pay you that sum.

This is an old story.
I bet the buyer never bought your domains.
Sounds like a scam to me.

As I mentioned to GreatDomains.com's own interviewer (http://www.dnforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4349), nearly ALL appraisals available on the market right now are useLESS.

Why? Take GreatDomains.com for example. Their "Fast Appraisal" which costs $19.95 is only a program; and we all know that there are things that programs can't do ... like translation.

Their so-called "PremiumAppraise" costs $75 and is done by a team of "experienced, professional appraisers". The questions here are: Who are these experts? How many experts are there? We know that a single WIPO panelist costs $1,500; how "professional" then are GreatDomains.com's appraisers when the whole TEAM only charge $75! And when a real, experienced professional appraiser charges say $1,000 per domain, how many domain buyers or sellers are willing to pay?

My conclusion is therefore: simply forget it!

Not only that, but the site doesn't specifically say that the whole team will decide on your domain name's value. I'll give you a 99.9% guarantee that only one person will be looking at the name. He's probably not a big-time professional, just some one paid per appraisal.

You're paying for the GD brand name.

The $20 software service is definitely not worth it. The $75 could technically be used as a marketing tool but for most people it's useless, too.

Absolutely. Not that GD has much of a brand to talk of, but then in comparison to what's out there, maybe it's a more well know brand, Verisign and all that.

Market values are continuously in a state of flux - and beyond the no brainer short, descriptive, no-hypen...blah blah, everything else is hazy and no one 'authority' has x-ray glasses, imo.
