America.com, self proclaimed to be among the top 1% of the world's domain names is now on auction at Greatdomains.com, an auction site operated by none other than Sedo.com. In under 24 hours the url has reached a staggering 1.05 million as corporations and well known players in the industry fight it out to own this impeccable domain with still five days left.

The domain is being brokered by Internet Media Consultants SA and if you punch in the site it claims "Will America embrace the best domain name or will it fall into the hands of another country? We will soon find out, as this potential record-breaking domain sale will be one for the record books!"

What's more, they compare the name to Business.com saying, "In 1999, the domain name "Business.com" was sold for $7.5 Million U.S. Dollars. In just a few years the developed Business.com domain name was resold to R.H. Donnelly for over $345 Million U.S. Dollars. America.com lends itself to a very similar possible situation for future development. "

Does this name compare to the viability of Business.com and will records be made with the sale toppling Sex.com and IRS.com? Predictions and comments appreciated.

Just hire the pizza.com bidders and I see a topple on the horizon.

What's messed up is that the seller of Israel.com has a condition on his sale that the buyer be Pro-Israel. Does the seller of America.com give a hoot? Or is he just cashing in his chips not giving a _uck?

I think this is an amazing name for any company from a marketing perspective.

And really..there have to be quite a lot of patriotic people who wouldn't want this name to be controlled by someone from outside the US

I think bush should buy this domain name. It may be enough to get him in the history books for a good cause.

Possibly if a US government entity purchased America.com for a record braking amount it may stoke the coals of this industry, but what do I know?

Looking at the history of this domain I'm prety sure it has changed hands a couple times and it has clearly been used for monetizingmost of the times.

2 Interesting periods in the history of this domain.

How about Isratine.com (I know not the same ring to it, but still Gadaffi has suggested it) No conditions on that ,will sell it to highest bidder.
