Im wondering if Im the only one whos in this situation or has it happened to many of you?

I seen a site for sale for $800 and with the stats I seen I could make that money back in 2 weeks, it was a too good to be true deal. The seller said he needed the money urgently and could only accept wire transferr, now usually I would back off at this point but I thought this case could be genuine because inside I was telling myself this is a goldmine. Me and my brother decided to share the risk between us and pay 50/50. I sent the payment via wire transferr and since the day he was due to recieve it he hasnt responded to my messages or even signed in. The loss isnt going to hurt me much but the fact that he stole pisses me off.

I have an appointment at the police station tomorrow. Im in the UK, hes in germany, I have nothing more than the info I used to send the money to him, IBAN, account number and his name etc. Do you think its worth going ahead with the report to the police? I know the chances of me getting my money back are pretty slim but if it gets him dealt with by his authorities I will be very happy. Am I wasting my time?

1. Highlight the issue to the authority
2. As you said , Slim Chance.. take it.

800 might look a small amount ( i know it is not, every penny counts, and when it is gone for nothing), but much more important is to bring him behind bars and justice should previal.

I am not a lawyer but here many are and see in no time you will get the best opinions!

First, it's never a waste of time to report any crime. If everyone did this, the police and all people would save time and money. You might not get your money back but you could save yourself and others from future losses.

1. Where did you see this site for sale?
2. You should publish everything you can about this person to help yourself and others.
3. Do your own homework and find out what you can, see if there are others who he stole from as well.

Good luck.

It was digitalpoint.

My only problem with going to the police is the website was a site that linked to sites like youtube for movies and tv shows. I was planning on only using the domain for his current traffic and taking a different approach with regards to development, but if the police take a look at the site could I not get in any trouble?

I didnt look at the site but as long as you are not hosting the stuff on your server then you aren't doing anything wrong. Just linking to youtube videos.

dont involve police
for such a small sum and considering it crosses countries
they will do jacksh*t
they do crap all when things happen under their noses

save yourself a headache
it's fishy alright but you never know in life, he may have fallen under a bus
unlikely, but possible.
the police or lawyers would want a reasonable time frame to elapse. lawyers will rape you, forget them. i neede them once and cost about £500 for one letter and one meeting and couple of emails. this is in a sleepy uk market town too.
so everything everyone has written about lawyers is true. theyre c*nts

police will just say same, wait a time, get a lawyer. they work on performance, budgets etc. they simply dont give a toss

send an email (as he'll still be reading) saying hi, i hope you're ok as i haven't heard anything back, just in case you are ill etc

blah blah, then say, you buy lots of sites etc. it happened one time before and you had to employ a lawyer, say it got resolved, but it cost the other guy a lot of money and a court appearance. he didnt do anything wrong but failed to act in a timely manner. the courts took a dim view etc. say under eu law, he'll pick up the bill and you want to avoid this.
then if this dont work. if you have a po box address (most domainers do) write a mickey mouse letter from pretend lawyer to him.
anyone on here can find out who he is. not me, some of the the other guys.

just my advice. and my opinion.

lastly never deal with people from site-point or digital point. scammer city
everyone knows that
good luck

Yeah I wouldn't bother with police for $800.
It was a calculated risk and unfortunately you lost a small sum.

It could be that something happened to the person but a deal too good to be true is a red flag and if it's digitalpoint (nest of scammers) then it's a double red-flag.

If you have the account number first identify the bank through the IBAN code, then contact the bank and try to get full account holder details (say you need to verify the info to make a a payment). Then you could just book a flight and knock on his door.

Its interesting how crimes like this are allowed to go on with little to no repercussions to the offender. What Pred said is right, though, yes, he could have fallen under a bus but, IMO, he didn't and he knew exactly what he was doing. Higher value site being sold for a very tempting price.

My wife's purse was once stolen. The total value in the purse was about $200 (cash and some other small valuables). They used our debit cards (even though my wife's picture was on the card it was still accepted for over $2,000 in transactions AFTER the card was reported stolen and for MONTHS cashed our checks or used the account to cash other checks. We had 4 months of barely having access to our own money while the thieves could take whatever they wanted (it only ended because we switched banks).

The killer is that it was on a security camera. They knew who it was and where they lived (my wife worked at PetSmart and it was a customer who had their dog in for a bath an was a regular). They had all the information and the proof that she took it but the police didn't do much because "it wasn't worth it".

Months of fighting with the banks, red flagging our credit, and not being able to spend our money sure as hell would have been worth it. Plus the cost of getting replacement documents (drivers license, insurance cards, registration, prosthetic hip identification card, etc..).

Its scary that the criminals seem to have more rights than the victims in many cases today. Where are we going and why are we in this hand basket?

I'd say let the police know and let INTERPOL know. If you went to a store and ordered something for $800 that they never delivered on I'm sure most people would be complaining up a storm- why let this person get away with it?

Agree with you ! As said earlier, the justice should prevail.
It is not about how much the amount was involved, it is about crimes like this which keeps happening and no one takes action. Later on, these guys get bigger and give a newspaper something to write...

I love my every single penny I earn and even if i spend for luxury , i am happy as i spend it to my consent and got something in return.

We have to change our mindset .. that's it.

In India we have a very famous line (like proverb)
Zor Ka Jhatkha Dheere se Lage i.e.
Take the shock in your socks and move on ...

But DM, you are deep into this business, you must be havin an idea and will really appreciate if you provide some links where we can find info for such scams and how to report / handle such issues .

Will really appreciate and wil be helpful for us..

I agreed with PRED

This incident happened with me offline, I callled the Cops, I called the cops for rude behavoir of one of person i was dealing with for xxx bucks and the guy would not pay me back, It was not about xxx, it was about I wanted to teach that person a lesson, but I ended up spending 10k altogether plus hassels after I called the Cops.!!

So yes, "Cops are not your friends, and you should not call "friends" when it is matter of little sum."

I hope this helps.

I am regretting, i could have bought a great domain for 10k now.
