4,980,000 google results / 130,000 exact searches!
Name is popular considering the BP news and our dependence on Oil. There is actual R&D being done on an oil substitute called "Green Crude Oil" which is made from algae.

GreenCrudeOil.com

What do you think the appraisal should be? Thanks.

Sorry mate, I don't see it. GreenOil.com or GreenCrude.com maybe....but green and oil just don't seem to go together. Then crude is crude...straight, unrefined, out of the ground, so it can't be green. ...well, perhaps it could with the right contamination, but it would not be a selling point. Now CleanOil.com, definitely.....

Hey, thanks for your feedback.. Just do me one favor. Do a search on google for Green Crude Oil. I know it seems like it wouldn't fit but there is technology out there and in the news that is discussing this (130,000 exact results matter of fact). IMO, it will be a matter of time before green technology like this takes effect. Of course, I am speculating and maybe at end of the day, this domain name is not worth anything more than the reg fee if even that much.

Well, I may stand corrected as there is the algae production but I have not heard of this referred to as Green Crude Oil before...but what concerns me is that there are zero advertisers on this term, which is usually a bad sign....and that only two of the article dates listed on the first page are from this year (all the others are 2008).

But, the algae production method may be something worth looking in to. For them finding you or a general sale, well you know what I'm going to say. But you don't need 100 buyers, you need one. Some of the startup algae production companies may see potential in it. Even if no one else did, they are so close to the work that they may just go for it if it's presented correctly.

If you could sell them on it mid $x,xxx - $2x,xxx would be my estimation. To anyone else, probably not reg fee (IMHO)....but you can only sell it once anyway, so I'd research industry terms when dealing with algae production and go over every interview I could find.

Great advice. That is my game plan. Just speculating and playing the waiting game.

The name just isn't ripe at this point, in the future it may become a good generic

google shows .05 CPC, 36 global monthly searches, nothing local US
hopefully actual producers will start using the term to market their product so a CPC develops

At this moment $xxx on speculation, in the future possibly $x,xxx to $xx,xxx if the term catches on with multiple manufacturers

Good Luck

Even with the Google searches being what they are, this name isn't worth much. The odds of someone paying decent money for it is very low. There is no chance someone will pay 5 figures for it. The name is essentially worth zero. The green movement has been in full bloom for a number of years, and yet this name was available to register less than a year ago. Nothing has happened between then and now to make this name have value.

It is also a bit redundent. Crude pretty much equals oil. I know I am putting a damper on your dreams here, but this name is not valuable. The only way it can have value is if it somehow gets a ton of traffic or if someone wants to pay you good money so they can build a site around it. I don't see either of those things having a one percent chance of happening.

P.S. A high percentage of people fall into the trap of registering names because they show up on Google searches. The name doesn't make sense, and it shouldn't be valuable, and therefore it isn't. A high Google seach count that doesn't translate into traffic doesn't help a lot.

Thanks again for your input. I have to respectfully disagree.

There is definitely value to this domain name. It may not be a domain name that you would go for since you might be into flipping domain names. I on the other hand, am a speculator and I look for future science & technology. I didn't make my decision to buy the name based on google searches. I have speculated on technologies in the past and acquired domain names relating to those technologies. Some I have been burned on and some have been successful. It is like a stock. I bank on the future so I spend time researching future technologies and make my domain name purchases accordingly.

There is no damper on my dreams. This is just a domain name. One would be crazy to bank all their future on one domain name like one would be crazy to bank their future on a stock. I don't plan to develop this site for traffic. My sole purpose is to eventually find an end user that this domain name makes a good fit for.

I don't know about others here, but I keep my domain name portfolio like a stock portfolio. Some high risk, some low risk. I spread out my domain name between those that I can easily flip, some are for speculation (like this one) and some purely for site traffic to generate income. It has done well for me.

I thought crude meant unrefined... as in unrefined oil. Maybe I am off on my terminology.

"130,000 exact searches!"

Where did you even get that number from? As was pointed out, it's only getting 36 exact match searches global, even if you put it to broad match, 170.

Sorry, typo on my part. It is 130,000 search results on Google. Not the # of searches via keyword tool. I completely agree with everyone that on paper, it really has no value but I have it based on speculation. I either make a good chunk profit or i'm out $10 bucks.. which I can live with.

Buying domain names on the leading edge of technology is a legitimate strategy, one home run covers a lot of registration fees. You should know if the technology gets commercialized in the next couple of years, determining if you own a solid generic keyword domain or not.

I speculate on names just like you do. With speculation, you never know which ones are going to take off. I hope you are right and this particular name makes you a lot of money down the road, but like you said, it cost you $10 recently. That is about its worth, though that could change if you are correct in your analysis.

Current value now is close to zero, but all you have to do is connect on a few speculations like this to make it all worthwhile. I still don't like the name, for the reasons I mentioned in a previous post. Good luck with it. I hope I am wrong as to the future value, as well.
