What do you think about hacks ?

I have seen the domain Appraise .it will be auctioned on Bido the first October and i wish to understand if it could be a good deal.

Many other hacks using .it and .me extensions have been regged, anybody knows if they are giving good income ?

Thanks.

Suffice it to say, domain hacks are as old as the WWW.
If there were gold in hacks, everybody would know by now. Aside from rare oddball sales here and there - development is the way to go. How would they produce revenue otherwise ?

Yep, without development, domain hacks require patience and a lot of efforts to find an end user.

I like and own quite a bunch of them :) But as .tv said, they are a long term investment if you are waiting for end users or just develop them.. We just developed one, but i dont know if i can post the link here, anyway it is wallpapers, shouldnt be a problem figuring that one out :)

Would it really depend on how the extension is pronounced? I've heard a lot of people pronounce the .me as "me", but I've only ever heard the .it pronouced as "eye-tee"

I don't really like them either, btw

lol :)

Spex, in "Appraise it" the it is not meant to be pronounced "eye tee".. But you have other hacks where the extension does not add another word but just finishes the keyword.. For example, Pana.ma sold for i think 5 or 6k a while back.. Some if which i own are banners (banne .rs), monitors and such product domains.. Renewal fees are not much and i have time to wait for offe.rs :)

One of the few hacks I have is:

Ma.am

The challenge is to come up with a genuine concept for it, that would provide a business model...Something around Fashion, perhaps? Or, women in business - work/life balance? Female-centric issues, etc?...Or...

...Might even be especially good for the Adult industry...? lol

You'd be surprised to know how well some domain hacks are selling for and thus more often than you think.

For more and more start-ups that can't afford to pay thousands and thousands of dollars for a generic.com (can we blame them?), using domain hacks is not such a bad idea, imo it's a pretty good alternative due to the high brandability of those and the fact that ccTLDs are becoming more accessible day by day, as for optimization it's not so much of a problem anymore as we all know. I'll go as far as to say that generic domain hacks are slowly but surely taking the #2 spot after the .com for start-ups that already have a name in mind and have no desire to change it, take for example the recently launched video platform Mag.ma.

Give them a little more time and you'll see, as for me I already have a nice little portfolio.
