Has anyone ever thought of death involved in domain names? Any other random thoughts?

I often wonder sometimes if people every realize that some "prized drops" are maybe proponents of some domain owners just passing away. One day you could be domaining the next dying in a car accident. Most domainers would not think to either pass on the domain or claim it unless it was a whale.

I can see it now "Hunny if anything ever happens to me make sure you renew ***.com for the kids."

Make sure to include your domains in your will, along with login info, estimated value, minimum asking price, development ideas etc...

Some people might die due to heart attack while domaining.

When they saw some brilliant domains for good prices, they got heart attacks. LOL

So Will might be good idea.

I remember at some point that registrars were offering life time registration (I could be wrong)...I think its a smart idea...you make someone pay for 30 years, and reset the clock only when the domain is transfered...would be a good money generating idea for registrars and an insurance policy against death I suppose

I've been directly involved in such situations, more than once actually.

About 5 years ago I called up a domain owner of a very good .com. When I called I found out he passed away 2 months prior. I then spoke to his widow to arrange everything. She was happy to receive $25,000 for the name. And I was extremely happy to get that top notch premium name for a mere $25k.

Less than a year later I sold the name for $330K.

I still have a name that's doing very well that was once purchased from a family member of another deceased registrant.

Sounds like the Raven.com case.

Okay, the truth is, most so-called domain investors only have a relatively small number of "valuable" domain names out of their HUGE portfolios. With that in mind, domains only make up a small percentage of their assets, unless you are among those who by chance registered a truly dictionary word .com more than 10 years ago and still haven't sold it yet. So in most cases, domains are not a priority, esp. when it comes to death.

Build a company that own all domains.
Write a testament and if you will die your wife/sons will own the company.

They own the domains also when you pass away.

I've got it all figured out.

I'm going to be cryo preserved and brought back to life 100 years later. The domains will always stay with me unless I sell them.
