For Sale Has it been renewed?

I have snapped a domain with the following whois info.

Status: REDEMPTIONPERIOD
Updated Date: 10-jul-2003
Creation Date: 06-may-1996
Expiration Date: 07-may-2004

Does this mean the owner has renewed? Why does it have REDEMPTIONPERIOD in the status then? Or is the expiration date a mistake maybe (hopefully)?

The register renewed it in hopes that the owner will pick the name back up. If the owner doesn't renew within 45 days the register will delete it and it will be available for registration.
