hey everybody, I'm new to DNF and new to domanining, but already have so many questions - and lots of ideas about how i'm going to go about things.

First, I'm really glad that this forum is here, and glad to be a member because the flow of information is essential to this, and any business. I come from a finance background, and I hope to learn some objective ways to evaluate names using traffic, click, and conversion ratios - as well as ways of monetizing through development.

One of the things that is really blowing my mind right now is to see the names selling at auction with no traffic stats (or otherwise) being reported.

I've seen a few other folks from NC posting on here - we really should get together for a meetup and share some ideas.

Thanks, and point well taken Domain Name. I've been reading everything I can get my hands on.

I'd appreciate it if you would recommend some specific links, sources, or books - and I'll check those out too.

Otherwise, I've been digging in and buying and registering domain names, trying different registrars and park companies, and learning a lot by getting my hands dirty so to say....

Welcome,

I am from Matthews, NC.

Read all you can until your eyes hurt :D
Then, come back tomorrow and repeat.

You know you are domainer when you start seeing domain names from almost anything.

It's important to read a wide variety of blogs/forums to gain a balanced perspective on domaining. Personal opinion and bias are rampant so learning to read between the lines is necessary to get your bearings as an investor. A first consideration is to understand that traffic, while meaningful, is only one metric of domain value. Any purchase made on traffic statistics needs to be carefully verified (for all the reasons you might imagine).

"Names selling at auctions without traffic stats" is commonplace ... particularly with high-quality generics. Traffic and PPC are low quality valuation metrics (insignificant) for marquee names. Although there is a large contingent of buyers who try to define value in this way as a strategy to buy assets for pennies on the dollar.
