Hey all,

I'm Josh from Tampa, Florida. This is my first post as a member.

Dnforum has a ton of information. Trying to take it all in too quickly would be like trying to drink from a fire hose. Would anyone care to recommend a few resources that would be helpful with the following:

a) Developing a feel for values of domains.
b) Selling domains wisely.

Thank you,

Josh

LOL. That is very accurate. I have a few resources here.

Thank you for the recommendation Tia! I look forward to exploring your website.

I will open my earlier question with a more specific and concrete example. Anyone who feels inclined, please chime in with your valuable suggestions.

Here's some background to the question I ask below:

a. I've been purchasing domains for less than 2 years.
b. I currently own less than 100.
c. Therefore, I consider myself relatively new to the process.

Here's the example: A domain I'm considering selling is Canadaiphone.com. The domain is not currently developed. To get an idea of value, I currently use resources such as the Google Keywords Tool, which suggests 110,000 global monthly searches for "Canada iphone."

I also use Estibot.com, which suggests $930 as an appraised value.

What might be some additional resources that would help me measure the value of domains?

The first thing you need to learn is to not buy domains with live trademarks in the domain.

The more you advertise Canadaiphone.com, the faster Apple will find you and send you an a nasty letter for the domain.

The maximum penalty for making money off someones trademark is a $100,000 fine per domain, so stay away from trademarks.

Also, when using the Google keywords tool, check the box on the left side of the page that says [EXACT]. This is the number that most domainers use to determine value. [canada iphone] returns only 480 exact global searches. A .com with 480 exact searches is usually a XX to low XXX name, but with TM issues they become almost worthless to anyone that knows better.

Learning to valuate a domain name is a science unto itself almost. It takes a while to learn.

Thank you for all of your recommendations and suggestions. I just sold my first domain yesterday through Dnforum. Nothing huge. $100 sale. Nonetheless having a quick success helps to build confidence.

I made the mistake of over-purchasing two word geo domain names when first getting started a few months. I'm starting to realize that generic dn's in more cases, than not, will be where I want to focus my energies.

Thanks again everyone for your help and valuable suggestions.
