Hello,

Does anyone have any experience working with Ultimate Search?

I've been trying to get in touch with them because we are interested in purchasing a couple of their domain names, but noone responds at the e-mail listed in the WHOIS.

Do they even sell their domain names, or are they just content to leave them parked??

Any feedback/ advice would be very welcome.

Many thanks,

~Matthew

I've never had any luck. I have owned a couple .net's & .com's that they held other extensions for--and written to aquire about either buying their names--or selling mine--but never got an answer. I tried several times--then just moved on.

Good luck!

...can't you investigate deeper by using an email address finder or equivalent? I did this when I was in a similar situation (none business though) and found the person had more than one email account and finally got a response from one of their other listed acounts.... Just an idea :)

There was a thread on WHT about a webmaster who's expired domain was picked up by them 3 months ago. Took them one month to sell it back to him for $1,500. He used their email from the who is - but their site might have more contact info.

I posted on that particular thread myself (Thread ID=68401, right?) but was not aware of any happy ending there. Do you mind sharing how you learn of that ($1,500 sell back)? Thanks.

DotComster,

The story in the thread you mentioned actually ended with a much lower price - $500 instead of the initial asking price of $1,500 - and I don't see any reference to ultsearch at all!

When you put it like that, it makes it seem like such a fun challenge!:D

The guy in the thread mentioned tried "a week of faxes and e-mails" before he got a response. We've done probably 6 or 7 e-mails. Maybe it's time to start in on the faxes...

Anyone remember 3 months worth of WHT threads?

I might have thought it was ultsearch from this part:

>>I have tried to contact the new owner (in Taiwan)
>>via fax and email, but they have not responded.

I don't thing Ultsearch will be offended anyway :)

DotComster,

Thanks for pointing me to that thread, interesting reading indeed. Just curious because I don't think that new owner in Taiwan is ultsearch since Yun Ye usually has a U.S. address while Ultimate Search that of Hong Kong.

Have a nice day!

I've successfully contacted Ultimate Search by email, when I wanted to enquire about purchasing a domain name that I deemed they probably get almost no traffic from, and received a reply. I expect it depends on the domain name in question and how you phrase your email. It could also be down to a bit of luck!

Just be incredibly brief and to the point.

i.e. "Hi. Are x.com, y.com and z.com for sale and, if so, for how much? Thanks. Your name."

Thank you for your message. We are already using the domain, but we'll be willing to part with it for US$ x.

Ultimate Search, Inc.

My God, it worked!!

After probably close to a dozen e-mails and a few faxes, Ult Search wrote back.

The one that he finally responded to was a variation of the above, also incredibly to the point, and sent from my personal e-mail address.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the tips and the feedback.

Now, here's hoping that he responds faster during the negotiations!

:) Despite the common misconception, Ultimate Search and their counterparts are no enigmas. They're normal people, or groups of people, just like you and I, except that they have done particularly well in domain name acquisition. As a result they have a natural desire to protect their identity.

If you contact them, sticking 'to the point' and don't bulls**t them, I think they are more likely to respond to you, especially if they are interested in considering doing business with you. If they're not, they might choose not to respond. That is their prerogative.

Ultimate Search, and their counterparts, attract unfortunate negative publicity and notoriety because of their incredible success and desire to remain anonymous. I think many forget that they are simply normal people, like us. You might even have sat next to one of them in a coffee bar or walked past one of their group whilst out shopping; except you'd never know. ;)

They're not unapproachable, but if you do approach them, consider replicating some of the above and respect their right not to reply, should they choose not to do so. If you do approach them politely, and keep your cool, you're more likely to receive a response.

I've successfully dealt with other notorious domain name 'collectors', without any problem. I've never failed to receive a reply to an enquiry. I'd say that most all of them got where they are by mixing intelligence with respect. They're just the same as you, albeit more successful. This certainly doesn't preclude you and them from doing business.

UltSearch responds to direct offers.

BTW, they also read this forum carefully.

As David says, no BS.

Given the incredible success that Ultimate Search, and their counterparts, have had at acquiring domain names I would expect all of them to read (and perhaps participate in) a variety of domain name forums and mailing lists. Given the popularity of this forum, and the shrewdness of their operations, I'd assume that they do actively read what is posted here.

Ultimate Search is top of 'the game' because they have out-performed everyone else by doing what they do well - acquiring good domain names. I'd expect them to examine every communication that they receive, which they consider legitimate, particularly carefully. If you've tried to hide who you are, in the hope that you can disguise your obvious interest in a particular domain name, to get a lower price, you'd better be damn sure that you have done it well and can follow it through right to the end. ;) I'd expect them to take their time checking every source that they have access to, perhaps briefly researching your background and correlating the information that they find (assuming they find any). I'd assume that they'd want to find out why you might want a domain name, so they can price it accordingly.

Don't mess them about or bulls**t them. I doubt that they *need* to sell you any domain name, since I highly doubt that they're short of money. :)

Ultimate Search and the rest probably do read this forum, as well as many other sources of information. It wouldn't make sense for them not to do so. Perhaps they even post here under a pseudonym. If they do, I doubt we'd get to know about it, because it wouldn't be advantageous for them to let us know who they are. :)

I tend to doubt that Ultimate Search really does this. He gets inquiries every day, so it seems more likely that he just places a high price on every domain, and doesnt bother to investigate most of them. Just a guess though.
