Help! Domain purchase problem!

I just paid this guy 300.00 for a domain and Godaddy will not allow me to request a transfer.

Heres what they said:

ICANN regulations prohibit transferring a domain name that has been registered or previously transferred within the last 60 days.

Most registrars do not allow transfers of domains that are within 10 days of expiration or that have already expired. If your domain name is within 10 days of expiration or has already expired, we recommend that you first renew your domain with your current registrar.

When a domain name expires, it enters a 45 day grace period during which it may still be renewed. However, if you renew your domain name during this grace period you may still be prevented from transferring it until the full 45 days have passed. Check with your current registrar regarding their renewal and transfer policies during this grace period.

If a domain name is locked at the registry, it is unavailable for transfer. Check with your current registrar to see if your domain is locked.

If your domain is already registered here, then it cannot be transferred to us.

Some registries restrict the use of profanity in the domain name; this could also restrict a transfer.

If your domain is registered as Private it cannot be transferred. You must remove privacy.



what do I do? Also how do I make sure I don't run into this problem again? I had no Idea that ICANN had so many rules.

Is the domain locked?
Has the domain been transferred into GoDaddy within 60 days?
Is the domain within 10 days of expiring?

Also if he changed the WHOIS info to yours, GD won't allow a transfer for 60 days as well.

Bingo. It's actually an internal GoDaddy Rule, not an ICANN rule. If the registrant is changed at GoDaddy, they won't let the name out for 60 days. There are ways around it, but for $300, just wait it out. If you are worried about your seller, you CAN push the name to another GD account in the meantime.

2. Failed or Rejected Transfer Requests

Go Daddy may elect to accept or reject your domain name transfer application for any reason at its sole discretion. Rejections may include, but are not limited to: The current Registrar rejected the transfer. The original registration took place less than sixty (60) days prior to the transfer request. The domain name has been placed in a locked status by either the Registry or by the losing registrar. The domain was transferred to Go Daddy less than sixty (60) days prior to the transfer request. The domain name expired but was not renewed. The domain name expired and was renewed during the forty-five (45) day grace period, and the forty-five (45) day grace period has not yet passed. The Domain Name Registrant was changed less than sixty (60) days prior to the transfer request. Any pending bankruptcy of the current domain name holder. Any dispute over the identity of the domain name holder. Any situation described in the Dispute Policy. Transfer orders over thirty (30) days old.
