Hi all

Since I am new to the business of obtaining expiring domains, I would appreciate your help on the following issues:

1. The name I am interested in is already back ordered by Expirefish & Snapnames so is there any other companies that you could recommend to secure a name.

2. How can I find out the hour a domain is dropping and where will it show first.

3. Is there a chance that I could actually get the name myself before someone like Snapnames could and how could I go about it.

Thanks in advance

Mark

1) namewinner.com and nicgenie.com
2) you need to do a bit of research on that, the info is in the public domain if you look hard enough.
3) yes, you need either a one click registrar or to script it - but if the name is *obviously* a good one then its very doubtful you would get it manually.

safesys, can you name some one click registrars?

If the registrar has an HTTP POST api, chances are you can make you own html page that will act as a one click reg.

Bulkregister.com used to do one click reges.

Beyond that, you'd have to research it as I've not come across any others.

Is it necessary to use more than one of these companies like snapnames? If you only use one, which do you recommend, and what are their chances for success? I have a domain I really want that is expiring next month...but I also don't want to spend $200 trying to get it :)

Well, in your case.. with Dotster as the Registrar...

If I had to pick from SnapNames or NameWinner, on this particular name..

I'd pick NameWinner.

Dotster OWNS NameWinner.

I think you'll win!

First thing... find out who the current Registrar is..

if it's Register.com
go with SnapNames

if it's Dotster
go with NameWinner

NO, i would NOT pay both DROP providers.. ONLY ONE WILL win,
and MOST likely it's gonna be the one who's holding the trumpcard.. the Registrar..

They would much rather sell a DROP name, with the change of continuing to gaing the Registrar biz.. for that name..

then, to let it drop off into the sea of drop names.. and loose full circle..

Those dropN from NSI/NetworkSolutions..

it's a TOSS UP..

Either SnapNames or NameWinner.. will win..

my personal feeling, is that those names REg'd with NSI.. are the ones which FAIL to drop.. within a 'common' time frame.

why??
well.. the longer NSI can keep that name under lock & key.. and continue to work through GreatDomains.. the better chances Verisign/old NSI can continue to control the name.. vs. letting it DROP.. and a SNAP fish picks it up..
then Verisign.. looses 4sure..

gotta think outside of the box..

think how these 'network partners' work-it.. together....

Wanda,

Thanks for the terrific response, this was great!!!

Now, the big question...it's a 3-letter domain, does that decrease my chances of actually getting it?

Do you have any means of knowing if anyone else has put monies up for the name through NameWinner?

? Also... I've been wondering.. how one could go about finding the info.. you already know..
which is..
? How do you know if other DropSvc providers already have bid's on the names?
How did you learn that?
That would be good contribution here to the subject matter..

I've never utilized any of the DropName svc's.. not that I am against the svc..
Just never have.. used them.
I've just studied their patterns.. and how the whole 'circle' of network works on these DropNames..

And to answer you Q..
I believe you have high potential to snag the Drop.. through NameWinner / ie: Dotster..

if, there are no other bidders ahead of you with NameWinner.

*** Hopefully neither of the MAIN DropName svc. providers, take more than 1 bid on the same name.. that would be fraud in my book..

knowing only one will win.. hopefully.. they would not collect from multiple 'hopeful' drop customers..
knowing, ther'es only one name.. an only one winner.

??? what cha think??

I am after a name which is currently registered with DomainNames.com. Since the name I am after has already been pre-booked with Snapnames and Expiry Fish and I have registered with NameWinner and NicGenie is there any other route I could take to try and gain the domain I am after.

Many thanks

Mark

i needed that info.

makes sense though..

a) don't look for it too fall real soon

b) it's major .US registration paperwork, rat race right now..
so that's gonna have an impact on 'normal' every day procedures.. such as dropN a name back in to the FishTank..

c) DON'T SPEND ANYMORE MONEY on 'SnapName Drops'.. foolish..
you've paid your dues.. it'll be a toss up..

^I was going to do that a few weeks ago. Until I realized, DomainNames.com is a Verisign Company. And the odds of them releasing it, arent to good.

i was kinda kiddN about putting in a Drop deposit on the name..

my main point is that this company is STILL IN OPERATIONS as
an accredited 'Domain REGISTRAR"

and their OWN domain name is EXPIRED..

quit wild.. if ya ask me..

i think that's a David Letterman type 'exposed issue'

it's funny...
but not soo.. funny..

when they are continuing to conduct biz..
and reg' names.. for people...
wow..
