Hi guys.

I have a burning question in my brain that I can't answer..

If you have mainsite.com

othersite.com links to mainsite.com (this othersite.com shares same/similar content related material as mainsite.com) That means this is good for PR rating ...or that is how I understand how it works..

NOW....is that ONE link better than having 100 sites that have nothing to do with mainsite.com to link to mainsite.com?

just the sheer number of incoming links no matter what the source TO ME at least would be better than just a few links coming in that are industry/content related? no?

am I being clear? Do you guys know what I am trying to ask?

Hey steveto,

Without knowing the sites you are talking about, with Google, its generally a matter of quality vs quantity. If the othersite.com is established and has quality links to it, I would take a link from it vs 100 other sites any day.

However becareful with same/similar content. If the content is similar meaning in the same topical area, then yes this is good. However if you mean same as in exactly copied, this is not good.

From my own experiences I had a domain and got ~20 links from off topic directories. For 4 months Google would crawl the site but not index it. After getting 2 links from quality sites, Google indexed the site within 1 week.

Hope this helps.

The term Link Popularity means the value of your websites in different search engines, Where the popularity measure according the quality and quantity of your website backlinks.

While PR rating means Google give some numeric value to your site which explains the importance of your site. Google counts many factors to give this numeric value to your site.

well i think you are trying to ask about duplicate content sites pr , duplicate content is not good because of Google panda update ,you should have unique and fresh content,if you want to get pr so you should make othersite content related to mainsite content but not duplicate.

Also, consider the number of links you want to create. A large number cant have a great effect on same site. On 10 different sites is another thing.

Yes and it depends on the authority of othersite.com, authority being however much Google has assigned importance to it over other pages around the same topic. Basically, the more important and more relevant the content from an incoming link is the better your own authority and rank.
