Hi folks,

I have a site about a fairly well-known (but dead for a while) author. It's [his firstnamelastname] dot-com, and I have written a ton of unique content - reviewed all of his novels and many of the movies made from them.

For months, this site has been the #2 result for this author's name on both Google and Bing, right after Wikipedia. I just checked and found that it is still #2 on Google, but is down to about #40 on Bing (and that's for one of the specific novel-review pages rather than the homepage).

Any idea what might cause this type of drop? (Sorry if it's a simple question ... I'm no SEO expert.)

Thanks.

I would say don't worry about it. It has been quite common that the rankings are dancing a lot over Bing. I had the same issues with my sites over a couple of weeks and they are back and doing great. Google and Bing have different ranking signals, from my experience I can ascertain that Bing's ranking signals are not as good as Google. If you can make some time and let me know what all did you do on the site in terms of SEO, I can tell where it went wrong. You can PM me if you dont want to make them public.

Anytime.
I am not sure if you are getting a lot of traffic from BING. If so, make sure you have good number of links with appropriate anchor texts. Thats is how BINGs algo is now. Good Luck

So far this year, that site has gotten about 4,000 hits from Google searches and 240 from Bing. So the Bing component is not "a lot of traffic", but it has some value.

Thanks for the advice. I will now go figure out what it means (did I mention I'm a complete SEO idiot?).
