a couple of weeks ago, i won an expired domain in auction that has local keywords, plus generic market word/words. ie: "bostongrocerystore

looked in the newspaper today and the biz that "used to own it" is still using the url in it's print advertising.

note: the actual businesses' name is NOT the same as the url

what a plug for me!

:)

kinda shows that some people are not up on their game

but the local newspaper still gets paid and hopefully so will i

:)

lesson and point....renew your domains if they have value

It happened the same thing to me last year.

A big local tourist company forgot to renew one of its domain so I spent $7.95 to pick it up and the link is still listed on the main site. The name is also in the DMOZ directory also.
The name is so generic and I never heard from them since.

i wasn't even looking that hard, when i came up on that name

i believe at the time, i was browsing the lists while talking to "YOU" and "WIRED" in the "chatroom" one day. :)

we tell people to come in the chatroom... but they don't listen!

namejet or snap, but it wasn't one of those "featured" lists.

i just put in a letter, hit search and scroll the results

and i close my eyes before i touch the keyboard, so i won't know what letter goes in

You lucky arse! :p Congrats man, while nothing like this happened to me but I do own the .com versions of a few companies who promote their ccTLDs in print and I never fail to chuckle when I see it.

I sold TurboHD.com a few months back to Dish Network. They are spending millions now advertising the Turbo HD service. Guess who forgot to change the nameservers ;)
