Hi Guys,

I have just received a transfer authorization notification for one of our domains id7.com which I have NOT initiated. The message is coming from an address @earthlink.net claiming to be Renaissance Associates, Inc and inviting me to a URL at http://www.transfer-approval.com to approve/dissaprove the transfer.

Is this a hijacking attempt ? Where can report situations such as these ? Anyone heard about Renaissance Associates, Inc ?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Regards,

NW

Could be just an error in transfer request - it's not a readily assumed valuable domain.

Thats' what I thought... I mean, who would want to hijack this crap ? :-D

Seriously though I question the legitamacy of the request as it is coming from an @earthlink.net domain and I still can not figure out why THEY are asking for the confirmation of transfer rather then the current registar.

We'll see what happens...

Thank you for the comments folks.

I receive those every now and then. I contact the requesting registrar and tell them that someone put in a false transfer request and is trying to defraud me of the domain. They usually say ok, transfer canceleed.

DNQuest, good to see you back.

Like most of us, we receive these often.

The other day I received a transfer request that also included the email
address of the person initiating it. I contacted them. And, they said they
thought they still owned it. ???? Yes, I immediately locked the domain.

Another experience I had, was a continous amount of transfer request for one
of my domains that I had caught. This went on for a couple times a month for 3 months. (I knew for the first 60 days it was safe at Dotster.)

Eventually, the person contacted me asking if I wanted to sell it. However, the point
that stands out, is that they figured if they kept trying to transfer it. Maybe, the registrar might accidently release it.

I didn't sell it cheap because of their annoying actions.
