I have been looking at NAS hard drives to connect to my home network so we can backup files from all the computers in our house. I have not found any really good NAS drives with good reviews, so my question is, is there something I can buy to connect a USB hard drive to my network or I see there are Linksys routers with a Storage Link that allows you to plug in a USB hard drive to share between the computers.

Any suggestions? :?:

As you mentioned, I've seen the USB feature on the Linksys router and it sounds cool, but I've always heard bad things about Linksys. Also, I remember seeing a customer review on Amazon where they said the USB port didn't work right (or something).

I have had a Western Digital NAS drive for about 6 months now and have been happy with it so far. It's quite loud at times, but that's not an issue for me since I keep it in my "server room" which is away from any major living space.

I got the 1TB version although, I have it set up for RAID1 so it's really only a 500GB drive. It works great and it's perfect for storing and sharing files between mine and my fiance's laptop... and I can easily access all my files from my work computer too.

I used to have one of these.

I always look to CNET for reviews. I know others who had it and liked it.

Look for this on sale some where. I bought mine for less than $300 total including a WD Western Digital 500 GB drive.

If I recall, it was wireless. Got my package on Amazon. Price has gone up:

It actually shipped from Tiger Direct so check them.

I am not a techie but had no problem setting it up.

Actually sold it for more than I paid for it.

I saw the Western Digital one and was going to get it before I read a few reviews. I do not care about having instant transfer rates, which is what I think was the bad review I read, as long as it stays connected to the network and all my systems can access it.

I may look into that again.

As far as routers, I have always had Linksys equipment (using the BEFW11S4) router right now. Looking to upgrade, but from the reviews, all the new Linksys equipment is not too great. What do you recommend as far as wireless routers? 802.11n would be preferred incase I decide to upgrade my laptop in the future, but not required. Just looking for something with nice range (I want to walk next door with my laptop) and a good speed.
