I think because there were two people fighting against each other for that awkward name.

Honky Tonk is an older (gosh, that sounds weird) term referring to a back alley or roadside country and western bar, jazz, or even the blues. Much along the same lines of a "juke joint".

Primarily an American slang term, the Rolling Stones did Honky Tonk Woman, quite the classic. Also Hank Williams, SR. Honky Tokin, "We'll go Honky Tonkin' 'round this town...". Think Bar Hopping.

Usually it refers to a place with cold beer, local talent, and loose women. My kind of night out on the town.

So, is there any wonder that I purchased HonkyTonks.mobi?

What does it mean? I know honky refers to people from hong kong...

Can't say i've heard of that. Over here its slang for white person. And like Doc Com says honky tonk is a kind of music.

Gee, I hope Frank Schilling can afford to take the gamble on this domain?

3 to 4 yrs ago, I use to joke - "what does Frank know that I don't know?".

Time has answered that question. He is a lot smarter than I am.
:)

Maybe, it also applies to this domain.
These days, he has the capital to overpay on domain names and not think twice about it.

Either that or he has more money than brains. The guy could spend a million bucks on the worst domain possible and not suffer financially from it.
