When the .EU registry first published the list of accredited registrars (http://list.eurid.eu/registrars/ListRegistrars.htm?lang=en) just a few days ago, I was somewhat surprised to see that there were already more than 50 on it....Well, I just counted again today and there are more than 200 now....219 to be exact. With this speed, by the time the registry opens for business there might be close to 500 accredited registrars. IMO, this is not good for those who're planning to pre-register names since with so many players, the odds are pretty much stacked against you to get decent name(s) even by using more than one registrar for pre-registrations ....Am I right in assuming this or missing something?

As of now, luck is pretty much the only way to get a high quality pre-registration registered successfully, even using multiple registrars. There will probably be many many more.

Many of those new registrars are probably shell companies setup to establish competitive advantage. They'll disappear once the .eu sunrise and normal registration period exhaust the best names.

These "shell" companies are probably also there in preparation for the .XXX launch. Its been 5 years since .INFO and .BIZ pre-regs hit for the first time, and the registrar business has changed a lot since then.
