DN resellers sometimes find it hard to comprehend business models beyond the standard generic suppy-and-demand one :D

It's mostly popular in Europe from what I understand. It's not too common a term in U.S. but it's image is a very cheap low class motel mostly for teens, back-packers and young people while traveling.

The type of person who stays at a Hostel is normally broke so I can't see much commercial value for the name as far as selling things related to hostels in some way. I also can't picture Hostel owners spending money on marketing as their hostels are normally run down dumps worth very little, either in a bad part of town or out in the country.

I would be amazed if the story were true and it really sold for close to 7 million Pounds (more than 10 Million $ I think). If so, the most overpriced domain in history. I would estimate its value at a very low 5-figure amount, definately not 7-figure!

P.S. This could be a very rare case where non-dot-com cc names like Hostels.de and Hostels.co.uk may be more valuable!

No, I was telling you it's spelled right. I was wondering why you thought it was a misspell.

Hostels aren't only in europe, there's a very popular Hostel in my neighborhood in NYC.

Great keyword name.

Hi,

Where did you get the $4mill figure? The story says:

"Terms of the deal are not being disclosed."

Also, they didn't just buy the domain name, they also bought the site which had over 10 million page views per month and is expected to add 10 million in sales to their bottom line in the current fiscal year.
