I've read a bit about this "WLS", but haven't heard from anyone how close it is to becomming a real thing... For myself, I generally oppose to this. It's just Verisign trying to make more money, and really doesn't help anyone but themselves, imo.

NOTE: I tried to search for "WLS" but the minimum search term is 4 charactures... this is a real dissapointment for the fact that there is a lot of *very* important 3 letter acronymes.

Thanks,
Michael Deal

October 11th is the scheduled launch date, but hopefully the courts will block it.

That is rather depressing... (just got into the biz). There should be some sort of petition out there.

... and, as a matter of fact there is (just googled it):
http://www.petitiononline.com/antiwls/petition.html

Hmm... although it says "By July 26 the names council must provide recommendations to ICANN's board, it is hoped that this petition will feature in that recommendation." -- so I'm not so sure how helpful this will be. But it's worth the time, imo.

BTW, thanks for the info's GeorgeK :eek:k:

That was July 26, 2002. ICANN's Board ignored the consensus opposition to WLS, hopefully at its peril.

Hmm... wow, so it really sounds like this is very close to reality

Do you support it? And if so, for what reasons?

Thanks :-D

Oh, btw, it wouldn't be called a petition

When searching for something that is 3 characters, put a * at front or back of it, and it will return results. Like WLS*, for example

There are so many reasons from both sides already listed at the forum, so it makes no sense to repeat.
As for me, I support "guaranteed snaps" model on the first place, which is not the same as proposed WLS. I would sign "support WLS" petition though...
Unfortunately, our opinions - both supporters and non-supporters - can not change the situation.
It will happen or not - all this is determinated by money spent by "bulls-lions" from both sides, the winning side need to spend more money to reach a result they need.

The worst change already occured this year. Drops are now predictable. It is the worst change. An art of locating soon-to-be-deleted names makes no sense now.
