Last time I checked 1and1.com had an F rating with the better business bureau and a dirty laundry list of unresolved complaints. Can anyone talk any more on this? I hate this company with a passion. For those of you who don't recall their BBB rating. Here is was as of June 2009

According to:

BBB of Washington DC & Eastern PA: BBB Reliability Report

This is not a BBB accredited business. BBB Rating F

Reasons for this rating include:

* Number of complaints filed against business
* Failure to respond to complaints filed against business
* Number of complaints filed against business that were unresolved
* Overall complaint history with BBB

The company's size, volume of business and number of transactions may have a bearing on the number of complaints received by the BBB. The complaints filed against a company may not be as important as the type of complaints, and how the company has handled them. The BBB generally does not pass judgment on the validity of complaints filed.

Most likely the joined the American Chamber of Commerce and the Better Business Bureau of the US.

Now they can put these nice little stickers on their door and small banners on their site.

So, if you see these small banners start to appear, then they did like anyone else can do...bought their way.

So does this exclude them from future claims? I wonder how often they will clear their record lol. Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the BBB supposed to be set up to protect buyers? not sell their "banners and stickers" for a clean record?

The BBB does not make money from investigating claims. The BBB makes money by charging merchants to be a member of BBB so these businesses can where that "seal of approval" on their door.

1und1 was charging me for the names that were transferred away years earlier.

Their predecessors were pulling gold teeth out of my folks.
The biz model didn't change

This is the email I received from the BBB. What a crock? Kind of reminds me of probation except they wipe your record clean BEFORE they prove themselves.

Dear Mr. xxxxx,

Yes 1 & 1 had an F rating in the past but it is now working with the BBB to try to resolve complaints as is reflected on our report. Your friend should file a complaint with us so we can attempt to resolve the issues he has with 1 & 1. Ratings are subject to change based on companies willingness to work with the BBB and many other factors. For a full explanation of our rating system, please visit http://www.bbb.org/business-reviews/ratings/.

Not surprising that this is their largest source of complaints.

In 2009, they tried to bill me after I had cancelled a hosting plan, eventually sending it to collections.

I managed to talk them out of it, and I made them provide me with written declaration that they will not further bill me, and any mark they made on my credit will be reversed immediately.

If I find any proof that they have not kept their word, legal action will most certainly ensue.
