Hello, everyone. it's me again =)... Ok, Well I have a pretty cool idea for a website and I have searched, pattens, copyrights & even searched all over the net for about 3 months for the idea I have. I currently have the idea in motion and the website being built but I ran into a problem. I need venture capital to advertise and launch the website. I need venture capital to get some seo done, press releases and furthermore just advertise. I am 20 years old and im a college student in NY. I have a 4.0 gpa in a community college ;). So my question is how and where do I look for website venture capital...I would be interested in looking for a partner also and split it 50-50.

If you would like to know my idea I will have to send you a NDA/confidentiality agreement.

So feel free to post here or send me a pm with your msn & email if you wan't to hear my idea.

I sincerely appreciate your guys time and will thank all of you who take the time to read this and possibly help me out.

You can ask for a loan at your local Bank or create a detailed business plan to promote at various venues attended by people of the industry you're targeting.

I don't have a job so a bank would not give me a loan. =(

Well this will probably make your quest a lot harder. However, brilliant ideas often come from people that are under financial duress. So don't give up. Regarding opportunities to pitch your idea at, a lot of people might be willing to listen and/or offer advice. Tread carefully, one cannot rush these things. The idea might be worth a lot of money but you need to convince the people with the money.

In addition to what my wise forum buddy has wisely said above: you have to show investors that you are willing to take the risk as well. Having an idea isn't good enough. Which means you should make the effort to get a job and pay or raise funds for whatever you can towards your idea, on your own and run with it as hard as you can. Get creative, have fun. Compile a business plan. It has to be on paper and the numbers need to speak.

I'm confused. You can learn some of this on your own without seeking venture capital, angel investor or whatever and you can save up a few hundred or so for advertising. Why would you go through such a headache if this is all you need?

Aren't you the person who wanted to start a porno empire???

Seriously, there was a person from the Bronx (perhaps another Borough) as a member here that wanted to start his own porno company.

$1500 - $3000 you need a microloan my friend not a bank loan...you can that money easily working nights, weekends, etc. if you want it bad enough you will find a way to get it...dont rely on other people for such a small amount, you will lose any position possible in the company

If you have a good idea (no business and no patent) and shop it to real venture capitalists your idea WILL be stolen.

If you're idea is for a website, and you haven't bothered to build it yourself and put at least a few thousand into making it start to have income and profits, you'll be laughed out of their office.

Watch the TV Show "Shark Tank" for a rather realistic idea of how you'll be ripped apart if you don't walk in with a business that's already proven profitable.

if you only require $3000 to make it work, it is unlikely a venture capitalist would even look at it.

So you need $3,000.
The only collateral that you have is your idea.
Ask yourself questions as you would be the partner who advance you the funds.
- If the idea did not work would I lose $3,000
- If it works what would be my profit: one time or the life of the website as long as it makes money
- Who is doing what?

Here is the dilemma:
- People who has money never had any new idea
- People who has idea normally don't have money

Also there is always problems with partnership arrangement. A loan would be more appropriate and practical.

Just my 2 cents

You don't need "$1.5K - $3K" to start advertising online, you need to learn about publicity and word of mouth. You need to learn how to ask other site owners (bloggers, webmasters, or whatever) for opinions/reviews and get your site "in the press".

If your site is that good, some of them will gladly write about it. I'm sure that this applies even to people here taking the time to help you, if your site is good, I'm sure even they would write about it on their websites. Why not?

The beauty of online advertising is that it doesn't always have to cost you loads of money, sometimes free publicity can drive hordes of traffic to your site.

People use PPC, banner ads to drive targeted traffic, you'll do that later, first you need to let the world know about your "awesome website". :)

The way I see it, you almost got everything done, so why not try to jump start it without adwords, PPC, paid banners etc?

Read about online advertising, SEO, learn about it and I guarantee you'll get some new ideas along the way. Some of those might give you exact results that you'd expect with those few K's invested.

ask around, theres plenty of people...ask a family member or a friend for a loan, use a credit card, the last thing you want is a partner unless they can bring a lot to the table but that means risking the loss of 50% of your company

Yes very true, But I am a full time college student so I would need a partner to take over half the work load.
