I think they make small sites with content related to the domain name, and place adsense advertising on it, so they make money

Putting a site under your domain with related content can bring some traffic from search engines over time if properly optimized, which in turn adds value to the domain. Being an Adsense member gives you the best and easiest way to earn from your traffic , otherwise you have to use affiliate programs and such which involves high maintainence.

Can you explain why affiliate programs and such involve high maintenance? I thought it was as simple as placing their banner on your site, your visitors click on the banner, and you make a % off the sale of anything they buy?

Hi Chad, its because the affiliate programs change their offerings constantly , so a link you put up today might be dead tommorow, they change banners , links , offerings , prices etc...etc... very often , and you have to stay with it.

Yes , you do just put up the banners and such as you say , but the code linked to the banners is changed by the companies constantly , and they kill to old codes most the time, so you will lose money if you don't watch all the time, where adsense is maitenance free for the most part.

That's right, but I have an ad management software running on my server. That way it's quite easy to change the different banners and links for all my sites with just a few clicks.

What ad management software do you use?
