How good are these Alexa rankings for determining value?
Is a site that is in the top 75,000 already very valuable. I ask because I notice some names in those rankings don't seem to recognizeable at all?

Are these worth trying to buy or grab regardless of name or type of traffic?

Thanks,

mbg

NO, Alexa traffic rankings arent worth crap unless VERY high up like top 15,000, They do it almost all on members of their surfbar which is not that many people so stats can be influenced alot by few people.

I found alexa in my registry and adaware looks for it, so I expect they are trying to install some sort of agent when you visit their site.

Alexa sucks, except when I'm in the top 5000, then I'll brag about it to everyone :)

I say they are great above 15,000 too. As for above 120,000 I don't think it is saying much. But as I saw my rankings go from 150,000 + to 40,000 I did notice a direct corelation of daily visitors to alexa ranking.

A site I noticed pop up a few months ago is:

http://www.sillyjokes.co.uk/alexa/index.php

And based upon that data, you can see it is a fair comparision, but not exact!

One of my sites is about 1,000,000 and another that is at about 470,000. The 1,000,000 gets about 20,000 uniques a month and the other about 30,000 so I use these a measuring bars for other sites around or inbetween those rankings.
I'm not usre if this is even close to accurate though.
