Hello, I'm attempting to develop and optimize UmbilicalCords.com and try to piggy back off of the billion dollar cord blood boom.
How easy or hard would it be to optimize this site to be one of the top Google results on a search for "Umbilical Cords" or "Umbilical Cord"? Is the domain name itself the most important?

Thanks for your help.

the domain is always important, and "content" is always key to ranking

however, you'll never know the ease or difficulty in gaining top position until you start.

as with most things in life, when there's more competition for the same thing, sometimes it's harder to obtain it.

good kwds though!

Good Luck

As the OP said, it's important to consider before starting any campaing, what niche, category you want to target first. Content, and On Page settup is more then 50% important, to be made perfect, so that you will have an easy trip to the top.

As you already saw probably over the google, the big G, puts a lot of importance on the content. This is also very important how is being done, what keywords density you are using. A bigger density then 2% is not so helpful.

Another thing, that is important, is the age of the domain. Older the better.
And once you start on Building Links, i sugest to read reviews of what other people have to say about the effects of building fast/slow..etc

I wish you best of luck..

Regards,
Matt:)

in my experiences, a fresh reg is NOT discriminated against, in favor of aged domain, when it comes to ranking or getting indexed.

as google does NOT adopt the same prejudices towards domain names as many domainers have.

I'm not so sure it will be easy for you. Both terms have major sites ranking for the term. You will might get page 1 but I don't think you will get position #1 unless you take the time to create a natural link building campaign that goes along with good content.

It's possible to get in the top three positions.
