Is this suppose to bring credit to the industry? I'd have to stand by the worth of anything I sold. This sounds too like the stereotypical used-car salesman's bible for me. :(

Did you read the ebook before you commented?

If you did, you would have learnt that one of the points that was being brought across was that even domain names that are "not worth reg fee" could possibly be valuable.

could possibly be valuable.
anything could possibly be valuable if someone is willing to buy more than what you have in it.

Bragging about selling a stupid domain means someone stupid regged it and someone stupider bought it.

Hard for me to understand the concept of selling a stupid domain and bragging about it...

and then claiming that something could possibly be valuable. That would make the total opposite more plausible and accurate...could possibly not be valuable...because it is a stupid name.

I wont denigrate you like the last poster did, You should be commended for putting this information together and offering it at no charge.... With that said, I agree with Mallies constructive criticism of the book (and it's title) that it paints domainers in a bad light... Hopefully you can improve on that.

Good luck with your business.

In all honesty, I clicked but couldn't get beyond the title. I don't want to sell 'stupid' domain names to people. I want to sell them domains that are going to be good for their business and that I and they can be proud of.

The reason I clicked was that I thought your thread title might not be doing justice to the ebook, that you had just put it there as a shock-hook in an advertisement. When I saw the ebook title really was the same, I didn't bother to examine it.

A domaining ebook isn't any different from other books in that the reader has to be comfortable with the reading experience right from the start. If a publisher reprints a famous love story - say, Gone With The Wind - with a cover showing porn, how many people will be reassured to be told that there is no porn inside, and that they really are going to find a wonderful love story?

At the OP's request by pm, I have now read the ebook, and found it very good, written in a pleasant and honest style. It's a shame the title gives such a bad impression of it. I think it's true what is said about the importance of a first impression - that you may never get the chance to make a second one.

The thing is, the domain he speaks of wasn't a stupid one at all - the only stupid thing was the title of the thread and ebook, imo.

I would like to openly commend him for his reasoned approach to my criticism and wish him all the best with his business ventures.

The title all has to do with marketing, I'm sure it stood out to a lot of people and made them click on this thread. It is more interesting and eye-catching than "Domain selling guidelines" or "How to sell a domain name".

Like the "Idiot's Guide to ...." series, not a flattering title to the people who buy those books but all in fun.

Speaking of which, what about this title: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Signing-Dum...=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1305931114&sr=1-3

I don't think it was meant to be funny, either.

I take the point, but I still think you have to be careful. Shock value is no use to a product if someone finds it distasteful. No need to go to the other extreme with a dull title, either. A little creative thinking can result in a title that hooks in the right way. :)
