How long before .INFO (and .US) are worth reselling?

How long do you think it will be before good generic .INFO (and .US) will be worth reselling?

Considering the rate at which they are being registered, it shouldn't be to long, hmm?

For example, a name that might be appraised on DNForum for say $15, how long before it might be selling retail for $1500?

Obviously this is all very subjective, but I'm just after people's opinions.

Here's a wild guess, expressed in terms of probability distribution of rate of return -- for very good names:

In one year:
10% chance = 100% loss (.INFO fizzles)
20% chance = no change
30% chance = 25% gain
20% chance = 50% gain
20% chance = 100% gain (doubles in value)

In two years:
10% chance = 100% loss (.INFO fizzles)
10% chance = no change
20% chance = 50% gain
30% chance = 100% gain (doubles in value)
30% chance = 200% gain (triples in value)

I'm not sure about .info, but I can speak about .us.

I've already sold one industrialsupplies.us for $2300.00. Other .us domains have sold as well - Just check afternic.com.

The only question that is left is how much will .us domains be after the publicity about the kids.us domain comes out in Mid 2003.

President Bush just signed a law into effect concerning the creation of a safe webspace for kids where there will not be any porn, sex, gambling sites, etc. It's going to be called kids.us. The kids.us domain is run by the same people who run the .us domain (http://www.neustar.us).

Under the provisions of the new law concerning kids.us, there will be much press/publicity about kids.us + educators will definitely be teaching children things on the internet using the safe webspace at kids.us. All of this will start in Mid 2003.

So - right now - the general public is only really familiar with .com. The .com domains will probably always be the kings. But soon the general public in the US will be very aware of .us.

So - .us domains are already selling at probably about 25% of the price that the same domain would sell for it were a .com.

After the publicity about kids.us and .us starts in Mid 2003, I would expect .us domains to dramatically increase in value as more people in the general public start to become familiar with this new extension.

I would give .info about 1-2 years or so. I strongly believe it will go with the economic conditions which I think will start rising in 6-8 months (unless a bad war breaks out, then 6 months after that. The economy always rises after a war.)

The .INFO will provide value in years to come simply because of generic use.

As you are aware, .us is a closed registry and registrants must confirm that they conform to .us requirement. Added to it, the registry operator of .us has announced a process for reviewing .us registrations for compliance.

So I prefer .INFO domains.

IMO .info has better / quicker good resale valuation over the .us

.info makes sense if the prefix is generic and a worthy "info" search.

be patient.

i'de buy a .info over a .us any day.

When we were 5, did we know what a .com was? (doesn't apply if anyone in here is 15)

.com is king, there's no denying that , but with the billions of people in the world, not every one can get a good .com. .Info will come along and be accepted in time. Much better than the other extensions.

Why is there so little development on the .us ccTLD? I mean, a lemur site wins the "best of" Nuestar competition, with only about a dozen entries?

There are tons of .state.us sites, no migration to .us?

Cause since the release of .US for general use in 4/02, most state employees all over the country are much more concerned about keeping their jobs rather than focusing on such "non-essential" stuff! to a large extent (or even more so) the same goes true for private sector.:sad: :sad:

Lots of site development there. Forum member that tracks them has a list of interesting sites.

I couldn't list more than 20 .us (aside from city.state.us, of which there are thousands).

.INFO has been live since 10/01, .us live since 4/02, fairly close in available reg time.

Have you checked Bidawinner's Archiver.US search engine? Leads to .us sites only and there appear to be a lot of them in all categories. haven't had a chance to explore it myself yet. I recently put my first .us online, CustomComputer.us, and I plan to do several more this year.

We shouldn't forget that (unlike .US) .INFO is a global tld and that much of its popularity and usage so far has been outside of the US...

Archiver is good, it searches all .us, not just the less restricted top .us portion.

It has become very difficult to reg the free city.state.us names through Neustar, since they have become responsible for it.

Customer service is almost non-existant, appropriate for a free service I guess.

Thanks DNS.. I have set up the search using allthe webs advance features..trying to sort out most of the government sites.. cant get them all but.. gives you the idea of the .US web sites going up.. I see alltheweb is having search problems at the moment.. but when back up you can see there are literally hundreds of thosands of .US web pages up ..

6 Months is a loong time as far as regs go.. you see .US is roughly 500,000 regs behind .Info..

I'd be willing to wager some DN bucks that in 6 more months .US wil be over 1 Million regs
