The number of people who can earn a living in any given market is proportional to the market size. The market capitalization of domains is tiny compared to equities (stocks) or real estate. This wiki article reports year 2002 market values in developed economies: residential real estate $48 trillion and equities $20 trillion. Year 2009 numbers may be similar. Verisign Domain Name Industry Brief February 2009 reported 177 million active domains. Frank Schilling estimated in his 3/21/08 blog post that 7-12% of expiring names are meaningful to more than one person. Let's say 160 million names are worth the time value of their registration and 17 million are worth $10,000 each. That is wildly optimistic and it yields a global market cap of $171 billion. I'd expect less than one full time domainer for every 288 full time real estate investors.

Well, you may be surprised.
Not everyone talk about their sales/income.
I don't talk much about my sales, how much I got for which domain.
I bet there are many domainers who never talk about it.

I think even if you do every thing right in this business theirs still a big % that is just luck. I also think their would be allot more rich domainers if all domainers could build and develop websites . Most domainers find it very hard to make cash from domaining. You can get a good offer any time on your domains if the are listed for sale on places like sedo or afternic i think you got a better chance if you list your price .

People define success differently. You don't have to sell a multi-million dollar domain to "make it" in domaining. There are many options.

I totally agree, there is pleasure to be had in building a portfolio organically without ' grand slams' or fireworks.

really want people to know that I’ve worked hard, very hard, to get to where I am today.. this didn’t just happen overnight. I started in business over 25 years ago and have found a way to build on what I’ve learned through every partnership and opportunity.
