A brand-new member on another forum wants to buy some (cheap) domains from me. He's offering to pay by verified PayPal.

How much safer is it to receive a payment from a "verified" account? Apart from the fact that it could still be a stolen account (I guess), is payment from a verified account usually a lot more trustworthy?

Thanks,
Dave

I had about 50 + transactions with paypal verified members and so far have not encountered any problem.

Did you check the iTrader/reputation of that member? Did you go over his/her posts?

These are the basics when dealing with customers who are forum members.

If I could ascertain that the customer can be trusted, I would prefer to get paid via Paypal because I don't have to wait that long to get my payment and/or enjoy my hard-earned money.

As I mentioned, he was a brand-new member ... so he didn't have any iTrader or posts yet. That's why I was wondering how secure verified PayPal members are. But thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I wouldn't accept PayPal payments from new members.

Don't use PayPal if you don't trust that member.
Use Sedo.

Use Sedo.
If it were a valuable domain, I'd do that ... but it was a mid-$xx sale.

In the end, I didn't sell it to him; just didn't feel comfortable. Oh well.

I'm assuming by "cheap" you're meaning <$15-$20?

Even verified paypal accounts can get stolen / hijacked.

I look at it this way, especially with completely unestablished members (don't forget, we were all there once):

If you don't mind taking the risk on losing the domain, then go with Paypal. Understand that there is a risk that you might lose the funds if the account is hijacked etc.

But - when the transaction is done, wait a few days and then leave feedback. If anything bad happens, report it in the sales post ASAP and let that forum's management know (I've seen it here scammers get away with multiple scams because people don't think it is worth reporting the scam).

Edit / note to self: Read the rest of the post before I reply. ;)

You've done the right choice.
If you don't trust him this is the way to go.

Regardless if a Paypal account is verified or not, you still run the risk of a chargeback.

Paypal offers ZERO protection on virtual items, so you'll be using them at your own risk.

If you have doubts about him, insist on using Escrow and see what his response is.
