Hello there,
I know of a .com name that I wish to buy, that is registered with GoDaddy, but expired early last month. The current status is now:

Registry Status: clientRenewProhibited
Registry Status: clientTransferProhibited
Registry Status: clientUpdateProhibited
Registry Status: clientDeleteProhibited

When should this name drop? Also, I'm guessing it'd be better to backorder the domain to try and catch it (as it's an above reg-fee name easily)? Any info. would be appreciated :)
Thanks,
Tristan

Yeah, that may work thanks :)

Also, I read around this a bit.. and I forget to include a detail I thought wasn't important: I seen this domain on sale on TDNAM - I think it received one bid before the auction closed. What does this mean exactly?
Thanks,
Tristan

It means someone prob already bought it and its in the process of being transfered into their account. When I purchased a name from godaddy it took atleast 3 weeks for it to change from "clientRenewProhibited" to my whois.

The old user can still renew the domain otherwise the bidder gets it.
So if you really like the domain you have to contact the old user and make him(her) renew it.So you can buy it from him(her).(you have little time)

Ah that sucks :( Thanks for the info. The confusing bit for me, though, was that the domain had already expired when it was up for auction - and even though the auction has now ended, the expiration date is still at the old date (i.e. early April 07)? Is this normal? If it had been purchased, wouldn't the domain's expiry date have been extended? :)

I believe that now the winner of the auction will get the name if the old owner does not renew. BUT...if it is renewed, then the old owner gets it back, and the auction winner gets their money back. You are best off to send the old owner an email and ask to buy it. I had someone do that with me last month actually.

exactly right which is why TDNAM sucks... it's like buying an "option" to buy a domain if it's not renewed ;)

Okay that makes sense.. I think :p Nah it does, thanks a lot all :) That's a shame about TDNAM; I agree with the comments that contacting the old owner may be best.
Thanks,
Tristan
