I just applied for a couple of trademarks on my services, and got a solicitation in the mail that I thought might be of interest to the forum.

It is from an organization called Trademark Monitoring Service, and they offer a paid service ($375/yr) that monitors new trademark filings for any possible infringements. They also monitor all new .com, .net, .org, .biz and .info registrations and deliver a weekly report to the TM holder of any new potentially infringing activity.

It is a brilliant service. I wish I had thought of it.

ain't too much different than those skeezers who monitor new regs and send you crap solicitation emails later.

Right - it is a variation on the idea. But merging domain registrations into TM monitoring was something I thought might be worth sharing. It might give some people who like to play close to the fire something extra to think about.

The idea, that service they offer, I find somewhat interesting but even if it's legit, at $375/y ? I think that screams ripoff, Jack Gordon, IMHO. As someone who's into domaining you would tend to do this yourself automatically anyway (check for similar domains regged/TM applications filed), and rather often once you own TMs, since you pay so much for each. So as professional as a service like this may be, and even with thorough monitoring, very few individuals would shell out that type of money, IBM or GE might.

Angel, you are coming at this from the perspective of a small domainer, not a large corporation with valuable brands to protect.

In the corporate/global/conglomerate world, $375 is nothing.

I'm sure it has. But I had not seen it discussed here.

I thought the topic might have some value.

I've never seen it before but a day after I read this post I found similar emails in my inbox. Must be getting increasingly popular to..spam..

Busy lawyers are not going to spend time doing this themselves. They will either have staff doing it, or will outsource. Considering the time involved over the year, and the unfamiliarity of most people with domain tracking tools, $375 would seem like a good price to a non-domainer. That's a dollar a day for something that might eat up the time of the staff.

If they can get 500 sign-ups, they'll have a nice income with plenty of free time left for other ventures.

Of course they will outsource it. Anyone who doesn't get this is thinking too small. Billions are spent automating simple tasks like this every year.
