Hi,

I'm looking for a way to create a dynamic 'domain for sale page', preferably (but not necessarily) via a 302 redirect.

So instead of creating a 'domain for sale' page for each individual domain that's pointing to my site, I would like to have one page that automatically fills the domains in a templated page.

So far i've looked at and tried several methods including some php script, to no avail. The site is running on Wordpress but I wouldn't mind adding a standalone html/php page.

Could anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks!

Send a URL forward from the registrar, passing the domain as a parameter. Then capture that string and display a custom page.

E.g. mydomain.com forwards to myportfolio.com/page.php?mydomain.com

this may not be the response you're looking for but....

think i've read over a million plus posts those who've told of their successes have shown that:

a. sale generated from parked pages

b. sale generated from portfolio websites

c. sale generated from individual for sale pages

and out of the three "a" seems to have the most success, not just in terms of sales, but also the additional "rev income" that comes prior to the names being sold.

the stats and the revenue can also be used to negotiate for higher closing price, in comparison to a domain with no stats or revenue.

but i think the more time and effort you put into an individual sales page to make the domain appear valuable to a prospective buyer, the better your chances of selling

if you automate the process and no special attention is paid to any specific name, then prospectives won't pay special attention either.

Good Luck!

that's how i build out mini's for my individual domain names, except i used html instead of php and i add related content and don't put solicitations for sale, even though the names may be listed for sale elsewhere.

I thought that Google didn't like you pointing more than one or two domains to a website. Or does pointing it to a different page each time make a difference?

This only matters when you're competing for placement due to duplicate content. If all you need is to point the domain to contact form then it doesn't matter.
URL forwarding is just a redirect.

there is a difference between pointing or redirecting multiple domains to the "same" webpage within a website, and pointing to different pages of that website.

when you do the latter, you create a web. :)

for instance, i use my portfolio site, to host mini-sites for other domains, by creating "keyword.html" pages that have content relating to the domain name that i redirected/forwarded to those pages.

thus, the portfolio site has rank and each domain name that is redirected also gets ranked/listed for the terms/keywords of the specific domains which are redirected.

the method of redirection i use is "frame forwarding"

Theo, thanks. Will try it out.

Don, thanks for the suggestions. I don't like the links offered on parked pages and my concern is that it may add to the changes of being at the receiving end of a udrp case one day. Parking revenue is non existent anyway.

are you saying that, parking rev is non existent for your name or in general?

but you can STILL receive a udrp, just for having a domain sales page because it clearly illustrates your intention to resell it

if one makes you an offer and you ask for high amount, then this could happen. especially if they are unknown to you but are really the tm holder or trying to or in process of getting one.

where they can illustrate that you fit within:

(ii) you have no rights or legitimate interests in respect of the domain name;

(i) circumstances indicating that you have registered or you have acquired the domain name primarily for the purpose of selling, renting, or otherwise transferring the domain name registration to the complainant who is the owner of the trademark or service mark or to a competitor of that complainant, for valuable consideration in excess of your documented out-of-pocket costs directly related to the domain name;

so when it comes down to it, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't...that's why i park so at least i can earn bucks for de-fence

Revenue is only a few (like 5) bucks a year over all (200) of my domains.

Yes, i've read about some interesting and not always fair cases. I don't own any tm names or am planning to own any.

Oh, that's interesting. So if I have the net, org and info of one of my dotcoms, I can point them all to the dotcom? That could be useful.

This works for me:

Assuming you have an IP available for an apache instance, just create a little php script in the server root, and point them all to that IP. You can change the dns records in bulk at most records. Make sure to create a separate email address for all the comment spam you'll receive. Unless you want to use it for a honeypot :)

A few examples. Add .com to each.

seniorhealthaides
seniorhomehealthaide

I thought that Google didn't like you pointing more than one or two domains to a website.

Indeed. If more than one URL goes to the same page (displaying the same content), then that is duplicate content.

I use (as suggested by Google) a canonical link on a page where I have more than one URL pointing there but displaying the same content.

Take the banner in my sig for example. It has a query string on it to let me know where the click came from. I have a number of different query strings (depending on where the banner is displayed) all pointing to the same page. On the landing page, in this case the homepage for my site, I have this canonical link:

<link rel="canonical" href="http://domaincheckerpro.com">

It means Google (or any other bot that respects the link) will only index the http://domaincheckerpro.com URL regardless of how many different ones are pointing to it.

Here's an important point. It also prevents referrer spam showing up in Google. I once had a page indexed in Google with the spammer's site in the query string, like:

http://mysite.com/?ref=spammers-site.com

Bear in mind though, one should make sites for visitors not Google, so if you like something and your visitors like something then Google can go and sing the blues. That being said, I usually find that stuff that's good for visitors is also good for Google (and other search engines) so everyone's happy then but for me the visitor ALWAYS comes first.

In the case being discussed here, if the landing page content shows a different domain for each URL then it wouldn't be duplicate content anyway.

I have my own server. I been thinking it would be better to create a 1 page script that auto pre-fill the information based on the domain. This way you can track the stats of the domain.
