Hey,

One of my domains dropped and it's being tasted by a registrar.

They drop the domain before the 96 hours from registration pass, then they get a refund and register it soon after. They are looking to see if the domain makes any revenue. So even if it makes $0.01 it's revenue

Problem is with kiting, when the same domain is being registered over and over.

What do you guys suggest so I can get it back?

Please help out.

Thanks!

Wait - but if it makes revenue above $0.02 per day, forgedaboudit....

Once you let it drop, it's not yours anymore.

Yep. It's been dropped. You wouldn't be able to get it back unless you play the waiting game and hope for the best. :(

As I explained in private, you can't. The key factor is knowing how soon after the "delete" command is sent to the Registry does a domain become available. To get your name back you'd have to use a script that'd do the following things:

1. Use a realtime API to query the Registry
2. Do it soon enough into the 96 hour window and often enough to maximize your chances.

I am not sure which registrar would allow you to use such resources long enough to get the name. It's essentially akin to becoming your own dropcatching service but not for regular drops.

if the domain is being tasted, I've had luck with, don't laugh, godaddy's backordering service.
It may take a few weeks, but evenually you'll get a letter from Godaddy saying "congrats".

or check out DNF member ThisDot. He has caught names for me in the past.
