Getting listed at search engines is definitely not a problem. Getting listed in Yahoo and Dmoz is a totally different issue. How to do it? The simple answer is create a darn good site and keep updating it, otherwise it'd just be buried deep.

Thanks Omni . If I point a name to one of my existing sites , does it help me get ratings for the original name of the site or the name which has been pointed to the site. Or it does not help ?

For Google, if you point a domain name to another existing site, I *think* Google would just assume both the domain names are the same - thus yup the rating would be the same, but note the emphasis.

If you decide to point the name elsewhere, then it would probably be back to square one again. Don't quote me however - no evidence backing it up. Perhaps someone else can answer your question better.
