Im not going to disclose how I compiled this list, but basically I have a list of 15,000 domain names. These are ALL available..

Having had a glance through the first 300 or so, I have found 10 MUST REGS, and about 20 SHOULD REGS. I.E This list contains some gems.

Given this it would seem logical to take the time, and trawl through the list properly to find the gems. My estimates however suggest that this will take 20+ solid hours (which I dont have).

Furthermore after about 30 minutes my brain goes mental, and I start regging crap. Also given my want of great domains my 'narrowing down' is on course to send 15,000 domains to 7,000 which still is not helpful. I want to get this list down to the 500 best.

Any suggestions on how this can be done WITHOUT trawling? Or at least any ways of getting rid of obvious crap from the list?

Some names are 20+ characters for example. Is there a number of characters after which even if it is a common term it is not worth looking at? e.g buycheapcarinsurance.com is a good set of terms, but long....?

Cheers

I got my best names from droplists back in 2001-2003 and yes, I'd go through the lists by "hand", daily.

I also use DRT http://www.domainresearchtool.com that should work in your case.

well, i won't try to tell you what number of characters is best to reg, because that would be assisting the competition.

but i will say that you should be considering how much your budget is for each reg, plus 5 years renewal fee

then take those "10 must regs" and figure out which of those are the least likely to sell or have traffic.
after that, then reg whats left from those ten.

wait 30 days and revisit those you regged and the "20 should regs".

now evaluate what you've regged against those "20 should reg" and see if you should proceed further based on stats and updated research.

repeat the process if it looks profitable

Cheers for the suggestions. I actually have DRT.

The problem I have is that some domains mean nothing to me.. for example it might be a place in Japan. The word means nothing to me, so to determine if it has value I have to google it, see how many results etc.

DRT Seems to aid in this department. It does auto appraisals etc, but the data it collects seems completely random: It seems to basically generate a random number beyween 1 and 1000 for everything.. I mean some things have an overture apparently of 700+ but when i search the term with/without domain I get 0... I mean where is it getting this data from?!

Don't use the "ratings" system, just enable the fields you want: e.g. Google PR, Overture etc.

That is what I would do ... but my point is Google PR are in the hundreds... I thought PR was a 1-10 thing..., the overture scores are clearly incorrect etc etc.

Am I misunderstanding what you mean?

I think if you have the opportunity to find 500 MUST REGS, either finding the 20 hours to do it should not be a problem at all or the names are not really MUST REGS.
