How to tell if Alexa, PR, and traffic is LEGIT ?

Hi guys, let's say that I want to buy domain names here on domains with traffic section, my question is:
How can I (MYSELF !!!) (not some screenshots and stuff) just by myself tell which statistics are legit and true ?
What are the indicators and some websites to check it, thanks.

Best method to gauge traffic is to ask for a DNS change prior to a sale, to one you can view stats for. Then you park the domain at your server, install Google analytics and check the traffic.

Thanks, but what if I would like to buy website, it won't be possible to shut it down for few days or a week, how can I check it then and prove that the numbers are real ?
With domains I have to agree with you that that's the best solution to get 100% accurate informations about traffic.
