The only way .XXX would take off is if it gets a lot of type in traffic, and the only way that would happen is to remove adult sites from .COM.

But then all the expensive adult .COM owners would lose their assets, so you should give the .COM owner the option to reg .XXX of the same domain name. So Rick Schwarz would get Porno.xxx and you could have a 1 year commute period where the .COM redirects to the .XXX.

It would be pretty interesting to have 2 extensions with mega type in traffic. You could say TLD's weren't designed to monitor content but it would be advantageous to type in a .COM knowing it won't land on an adult site. How many kids land on CollegeGirls.com, WebCams.com, DollHouse.com? There's a clear line between commerce and pleasure!

That would be a nightmare for the sites that rely on backlinks.

Besides - what gives (whoever) the right to just take .com domains (high and low value) from their rightful owners?

what about the person who owns porno.net or .org or porno.mx? it would be a huge mess and pretty pointless. you don't need a specific tld to filter out adult sites.

After a year of being redirected from hotwomen.com to hotwomen.xxx the type ins should go to .XXX so you don't lose the keyword, just the .COM extension. Maybe a free program to analyse a site and detect and replace expiring .COM addresses would make updating links a non issue.

Shame about .net though, thems the breaks!

try telling that to pussy.org...a huge site while the .com is parked. its a very flawed idea that won't happen. not to mention *someone* will be profiting from the typins the .com's will receive. you can't break 15 years of typing in .com in one year....

don't calll such a simple logical reasonable idea very flawed because pussy.org will have to get a new domain. It may not happen over night, but it will happen.

I guarentee it won't. Who is going to police this? What would be stopping someone from registering a .com and using it as an adult site? Its far from simple, unless you ignore everything else that would need to be done to make it even half-assed effective.

The company that wants to push .xxx through would never allow the .com owners to simply 'register' their .xxx companions because they would be losing out on millions of dollars that they stand to make from auctioning off these domains. ICM just wants money, and will do whatever makes them the most. Your 'idea' does not. So it won't happen.

Your deduction based on unoptimized profits is a total non sequitur. There is substantial benefit to keep .COM for general audiences.

The government manages to keep brothels out of family suburbs in Australia, same concept.

HotOrNot manages to keep millions of profiles kid friendly with a notify content button, I doubt they need to spend much resources monitoring content. How hard can it be to flag an adult site?

We won't come to an agreement so we'll just have to see what happens. Though the flagging system is so easily abused. Don't like your competition? Get proxies and flag them over and over again.

Folks, you are asking the sleaze industry to operate on the honor system? And you see no flaws there?

Sure, sure, sure...we'll move our site to xxx.

The whole concept is flawed. And so un-necessary.

Currently, globally, there are millions of porn sites operating under every imaginable extension there is. And they are going to police themselves? And putting them under one XXX umbrella is going to protect the little childrens in the world?

Hiding behind an xxx domain is not going to stop little Johnny from choking his chicken in the bathroom with the iPad on his lap. Just hope like hell his parents bought a screen protector.

The entire .xxx saga was caused by the pressure that the religious right in the US exercised on the Bush administration. There is no other reason not to have what is, essentially, a specialized gTLD, just like the ones ICANN is pimping right now.

Sure I'm not here to argue just putting forward an idea.
