I have a domain for which there used to be 30-40 monthly whois queries as per my godaddy account. In past one week there have been 361 queries and in this month till today Nov 13 there have been 560 queries.

What could be the reason for this sudden jump ? It is a very old .com regged in 1996.

Thanks,

Acro - "Most likely it's about to expire".
It is registered for several years.

tekz999 - "Put: This domain may be for sale in whois and see what happens".
I did that a long time ago.

hugegrowth - "I notice an increase in whois checks around renewal time, but your numbers are really high.
You said it was an old domain, must also be a good one and getting noticed".
Renewal is not due for many years. Yes , it is a very good domain and is getting noticed.

katherine - "Domaintools bot ?"
Possible but how do we know for sure.

Thanks to all of you.

Renewal date is in September. Spike in whois was in November.

I don't think people pay attention to the year in the expiration. Is it near the renewal date (just not year)?

How can you tell the numbers of queries?
I don't know about Godaddy, but with Fabulous you can run a expiry search of your names and then sort by whois queries.

You can do the same at Godaddy:
Domain Manager----Tools----Exportable Lists----Add New Export----All My Domains----Whois Searches (previous period or current)

Let me know if you need anymore help.
and do it every month beginning.. in godaddy
this could also be becuase of services lke pageinsider , webdetail, easy-stat etc that indexes page and fetches whois info everytime the page is accessed ... ex- http://www.allaboutsite.com/dnforum.com or http://webdetail.org/www.dnforum.com or http://website.informer.com/dnforum.com#tab_whois

and thee type of sites are increasing day by day! any good indexing in any one them do increase the #s

**none of the links / website / domain name mentioned above in my post is mine or is not affiliated anyhow. just for the information...
