OK, I need some opinions about hyphenated domains. I have never been too fond of them myself. However, I possess 2 of them. One which I registered myself, and one that was given to me in trade for something else. I'm not an expert on hyphenated domains and I have never sold or used one in the past. Any opinions would be appreciated.
Are they worth keeping in these days?

Thanks!

I have never had interest in these type of names, the names are more of interest to owners and users of the non-hyphenated edition for purposes of closing their back door to copy-cats.
Best of luck!

I've never liked them myself (there are acceptions though). Although I have found that they are good for search engine optimisation because each word is picked up individually. For example just by displaying your email address as [email protected] will increase your keyword count for "loans". Where as if you had [email protected], "loans" would be ignored because its displayed as one word.

Interesting stuff dodgeviper!! I never thought of that. Actually, I was given the advice by a SE Expert to develop this domain. He said it had great potential of getting ranked high. But finding the right sposors is not the easiest for this domain. Also, I have my agenda filled up with other projects.

Thanks All For Your Comments So Far!!

Keep 'em coming folks!

Any name has a resale value if there is a buyer.

However, hyphenated names will not give you the big $$$ over the non hypehnated version of the name.

As DodgeViper has stated, they are great for development and SE optimization.

For example if you have a website promoting casinos and you are using a name such as vialliscasinos.com (purely hypothetical), not a lot of good for SEO.

However, if you have individual pages for slot machines, poker games and roulette tables then names such as slot-machines.org, poker-tables.net and roulette-tables.com may help in getting these pages ranked higher in the SE's.

Having said this, we all know that SEO is somewhat a science, and each SE looks at different things when indexing the pages of your site.

So whatever you strategy, Good Luck :D
