Couple of weeks ago i was looking through s1jobs.com for inspiration for development of my own career website, i came across this job domain name consultant, i thought oh well lets take a look, it turns out it was Demys Ltd advertising this position (btw i have to confess before i saw this i never knew about demys.com , turns out they are a big Edinburgh domain company!). Well there was no harm in applying i suppose, i did that and i got a letter of rejection  , to say due to the high volume of applicants i wasn't seen as skilled enough to be asked for an interview... Something that started as abit of a joke got me fueled with anger now, i have over 6 years domaining experience and have always been a part time domainer, i can't see how there was so many people who matched my experience in my city (Edinburgh with a population of 500,000 people)

Either Demys didn't bother to read my cv which I mailed to them btw or there is a hidden extremely experienced domain community in Edinburgh i never knew about... Either way thats one company blacklisted from my list of domain contacts. :upset:

No reason to take things personal. Maybe they did have more qualified applicants? Who knows.

Try and ask what type of a domain name consultant are they looking for.

I recently helped a friend of mine with similar hiring. It was for a law/IP company in Germany.

Job was for a domain names consultant. Main requirements were legal education, intellectual property experience, client acquisition and management (enterprise clients), familiarity with Internet law and similar.

Ability to quickly estimate a value of a domain name or familiarity with domain names aftermarket, dnforum, sedo, etc. were completely irrelevant.

Different markets, different requirements - it was nothing personal. Your skills probably really didn't match the skillset they are selling to their clients.

First of all i was never serious about this job anyways, secondly the job specification was domain name consultant which is part of my current self employment job anyways. Ive done lots of domain and web consultancies within my own cities with lots of companies, there was no lack of experience or knowledge for the primary role unless the role had some hidden agendas which were not described. I was never going to accept the job anyways (unless it paid £65,000 + per year), just wanted to meet up with demys people and link up with a more local domaining community. So much for that. :undecided:

I never thought i was alone, i just didn't imagine there was so many with more experience than myself with a degree and plenty of experience. I must live in one of the most domain competitive cities in the UK!

Try and ask what type of a domain name consultant are they looking for.

I emailed them to ask if there was a field i needed improvement on, still awaiting their reply!

Maybe they were just sizing up the local competition. :)

Someone could have applied who was willing to move there for the position.

It could be worse. I never got a return call from a job application I submitted 14 years ago at a new Wal-Mart. What was worse was they even rented my former retail store to conduct interviews.
