Yesterday I remembered that a domain that was the .com of the title of a book a friend of mine wrote dropped (I also run his site). I also remembered at the time that I was going to check a week later to see if it dropped or got picked up though the drop process (he said it wasn't worth $60 to get the name). But, I forgot to try to register it.

So, yesterday I go to register it. Huh, it's taken. I spend a few minutes cursing. I go to domain tools to see what "person" registered it and I was willing to bet some squatter picked it up to just park it.

I check the WhoIs..

I already registered it and had it pointed to my friend's book page.:lol:

I don't know if I should laugh over this or cry that I forgot that i got the name. What other names do I own that I forgot about?

I squatted my own name?

Considering my friend's history - someone owned hisname.com and ran a site claiming to be him, even with illegally published copies of his books.

Be careful guys is full of squatters out there

About two years ago I succesfully backordered a domain that Iwas expiring. I did not realise it was me who dropped it until I wanted to create a vhost for it that was already there :p

It is a good idea to keep track of your domains.

I keep my domains listed in a spreadsheet file. The domains are sorted by registrar and listed in order of expiration. This is a good way to keep track of expiring domains. Anytime I sell or register a domain I update the list.

:undecided: That happened to me on my "Trimon War of the Lands" domain. I finally got it back earlier this year after two years of beating myself up about it. I even considered changing the name of my book. I'm guessing they finally discovered there was no traffic going to it because I haven't published the book yet and I'm a first time author. Good for me though!
