Pool (it wasn't with anyone else). I am semi-confident I'll get it but I'll be very happy if I do.

I was explaining to a friend how it was BEFORE drop catchers went to the auction format, Those were the good old days! Like many of you, I grabbed a lot of great domains then

Good luck Draggar!

You could probably time your reg attempts then and catch domains on your own. That must have been good times . Too bad I didn't find out about this domaining thing until late 2006. :shy:

Most of the time I don't bother with the backorder process, many of the domains I want are available the day after they drop and if they aren't, then they're available a week later (tasters - but they're now not doing as much anymore).

I tried that and it never worked, We were no match for the drop catchers custom software, not to mention we had BuyDomains to compete with as well.

2000 is when we got into it.

When I first started domaining I read up on catching domains on my own and I even purchased a tool for it. But then I found out about Snapnames and understood that I had no chance. I wonder how much Snapnames make on a yearly basis, it must be a lot. Just think of all the dropping names they catch that sell for $xx,xxx and above.

While catches like that are nice, I'm willing to bet, by far, most of their transactions are just the drop fee, $60 etc.. which is pretty nice considering the registrars register them for about $5-$7, the drop catch companies probably pay them an extra $10-$15 and they pocket the rest of the $60-$70.

I backordered CasualAdvertising(.)com and actually got it. It was my only backorder. It was worth it, but I'm not sure if I would do it again. I try not to get too attached to the domains -- if one is not available i now just move on. This one was for a business venture to insert sponsors into casual games, so it was important to have the words.

I've had the worst experience with pool. It is very difficult to get any type of support from them lately! Too bad they don't have a representative on this forum.
