Things are progressing well in the IDN field. Just not here. It's a shame too.

Barely 3 months ago you could register good IDN .com's, now it is getting hard to find decent .nets. Rolling thru names on the whois.com register, it's looking like a Goldrush of International domainers moping up key words and generics in every major language. Definate impact in languages of Japan, Korea, Russia, and China. Amazingly not many being put up for sale...

bwhhisc said:I don't think many people realize that there are hundreds of thousands (probably millions) of "foreign" language websites out there today. Currently you have to access them with an ascii "English language" url. But that is all about to change, and you can bet that the 85% of the world that doesn't speak any English is going to choose their native script for their urls. And why not, they can even remember the words in their own language! As described today by Big Dave...there is an entire "parallel universe" of websites out there that most ascii domainers don't even realize exists.
WANT TO SEE: Plug the Japanese word for GOLD into google search: 金
How about 563,00,000 million mentions, all in foreign language! Pop open a few of those websites for some interesting fun....now imagine that the entire universe of urls and domain names were in THEIR language (Japanese for instance). You'd be waiting for English to roll around as anxiously as they are waiting for their native scripts to be implemented as well. Welcome to the world of IDNs.
