Few weeks ago I've been outbid on SEDO and today I've just received the email below (from SEDO):

Hello,

A few weeks ago you bid on this name at auction. The winning bidder did not make payment on the domain. Would you still be interested in it? The owner is still willing to sell it for $xx,xxx.

Let me know.

Best Regards,

That $xx,xxx amount is the winning bid ammount, I really don't think it's fair to pay it. On that auction, after 1 point, only I and the winning bidder remained there and we both have bid about 5 times. In my opinion all the bids from that winning bidder should be removed and afterwards take my 1st higher remaining bid.

Am I wrong?

That's how I would look at it too, as a buyer.
Also, be sure the email is legit by checking in your sedo account regarding the transaction, or contacting someone there directly if the email is even SOMEWHAT questionable, as there have been some pretty good sedo spoof emails lately.....

Good luck! sp

its a bunch of crap when a bidder drops out...but at least you have an option...and i agree with that you should contact Sedo your own way not through that email.

Good Luck,

That is really up to the seller. He is only obliged to sell to the highest bid at the auction's end and if the high bidder is not making payment, then it's up to him/her if he/she wants to sell the domain for a lower price (even if the non-paying bidder is the reason the price was bid up). Tough call, but there's nothing you can do if the owner doesn't want to sell for less.

The email is 100% legit, no spoof.

The fact is the reserve for that domain has been met and after few more bids that "winning bidder" appeared. So, in the case that "winning bidder" wouldn't exist the domain would have been sold. In my opinion the seller shouldn't even be asked if he agrees....

Yes, I'll contact SEDO, but I was talking about the principle.

Unless you or Sedo can prove that this "winning bidder" who bid the price up is a shill bidder ("hired" by the current domain owner), then you can't do anything about it unfortunately. :undecided:

If I were you and if you really want the domain, contact the buyer directly and try to make a deal with him/her. See if you can agree on a reasonable price that you both can live with. If the auction has ended and the transaction is canceled, Sedo no longer has any exclusivity.

Yes, probably I'll contact the seller.
